My car is currently out of comission because of the Primary O2 sensor, so I wasn't able to try out JoeP's MBC. Right now I have a GFB atomic MBC (bleeder valve type) and it's stable and doesn't really spike too much. My main complaint is the slow spool up.

At this point in time, I'm deciding wheter or not to go with a turbo xs Hp MBC (http://www.boostcontroller.com/index.php?item=57&ret=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.boostcontroller.com%2Findex.p hp%3Fpage%3D1%26category%3D26) or look for a used Greddy profec Spec II ($200ish).

So far I like mbc for its simplicity. If I wanted more boost I just pop the hood and twist the knob. I'm just unsure about how troublesome it is to tune a Ebc. Idealy, I want to say around 7 to 8 psi at this point until I get forged.

Any advice for a stressed out and obscessive student?

Get a two stage mbc such as TurboXS or BoostSciences. Both will give you faster spool up and the ability to habe more boost with an incabin switch.

I say get the Boost Sciences Accuboost! I know someone who has it and it works SO much better then other mbc's. 505zoom sells them. ;)

My 5$ carbeurator spring raised my boost to .58 bar(8psi)with no spike. It also spools up quicker and doesn't bleed off near much as it used too. But if you want to spend 200$ on the same result I would go with a turbo excess dual stage boost controller. it will give you a choice of 2 settings at the flip of a switch and the simplicity of a mbc

I have the tubo xs dual stage mbc and luv it. I have had no problems and boost is very smooth.

They are both quite expensive...Maybe I should just stick with either the gfb atomic mbc or Joep's Mbc for now.
