Front Brakes (possible problem)

I payed a little more attention to the dirt on the wheels when i realized its mostly on the back. The back wheels are getting covered in brake dust which tells me they are doing more than 75% of the braking, if not more. The front brakes barely emit dust on the wheels. I am use to the exact opposite.

Do you guys have the same results? Or is this a problem with my car? The tech was suppose to look into it, but forgot to.. i will have to call him back and check on it again. TIA

More brake dust in the rear is a common issue with the Mazda3 (not just yours). Don't worry about it - though the rear pads will be wearing out faster than the fronts (again common on the Mazda3).

i thinks its because the fronts are vented rotors and the rears aren't... or mazda is just really cheap when it came time to button this one up and they used some cheesy brake pads in the rear... common prob, don't worry, just buy some low dust pads when you are ready to change em...

i tried to get my pads replaced by the dealer cause of the brakedust but no dice. just get some high quality pads when you are ready to change. i already got my ebc greenstuff and im waiting to wear this ones a bit more before i switch.

i tried as well... got the response that all was good... they just dusty lil mofos is all...

the bias is to the rear, same on the 6's i believe, i'm going to try a brake proportioning valve and see how that works.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Its nice to know its not just my car!! I am almost worried the dealer will screw something up trying to fix it if they don't realize its a common problem. I will call again and see if they have gotten any news for Mazda about the issue and the best resolution for the customer.

I couldn't get Mazda to do anything with my brake dust problem either, although I also have a "clicking" in the rear when I apply the brakes, so I will see what they say..

my friend's 3 does the same thing, Rear rims get more brake dust than the front.

Unfortunately, it's common.
Fortunately, it has little to do with the proportion of braking force being applied.

As was previously mentioned, it's just a bad braking compound. (hand)

The prop better not be to the rear or your car wouldn't stop worth a crap. And good luck installing a prop valve without completely replumbing the entire brake system. Just about EVERY single street car uses a diagonal split brake system, and in order to run a prop valve you have to change it to a F/R slpit system.....good luck.

Bascially, I am saying you are incorrect in what you are saying.

The rear pads are just soft, wear out fast and create a lot of dust. They do prevent rust from forming on the rear disks pretty well though.
