Just wanted to let everyone know that according to extrudehone.com to get our intake mani extrude honed it would cost $485 plus shipping to them and its about a two week turnaround time. Anyone think this is worth it for the gains we would get. I think the price is kinda steep .

It's rather inexpensive normally however, an intake mani on a Protege normally takes 24 H to hone..

400 + Not worth it for you. I would put the money elsewhere first.

Yes, Extrude Hone is NOT a cheap process. I almost had the turbo elbow on my '91 MR2 Turbo done, it would have been $350 at the time. But they were claiming dynod 5 hp increase, and 200-300 rpm earlier full boost.

If anyone has it done, it would be good to have before/after dyno sheets, including boost presesure charts at each rpm level, any perceptions of throttle response change, etc. Not that I'm pointing fingers, but speakikng in general, too many people pay attention to just increasing boost, and never look at the "blueprinting" portion of tuning... port matching, Extrude Hone, etc, things like that.

I would agree.

Not a very cost effective thing.

is this almost the same as port and polish?

Extrude Hone might have a better technical description, but as I understand it they pressure-push a "putty" through one end, and it comes out the other end with the discarded metal. The "putty" becomes abrasive as pressure builds, and smooths out everything inside the chambers.
