2 questions...

1st...can i plug my subwoofer in the original cd player(protege LX 2001)

2. what would you change first: speakers or headunit??

Head units not bad, change the speakers. I got great results.
Be aware the stock shit loves to distort you really need a new one or there is danger youll shread your speakers, I shreaded all of mine! Just dont crank it half way is safe.

A sub can only be used if you run a line out converter. Just piggy back of the stock speakers.

Nope there isn't. You need to buy a line output converter to run subs with the factory headunit. A line output converter is pretty cheap to buy too.
