a turbo kit would come with its own intake system. the piping from the intercooler and turbo that go into the throttle body replace where a cold air intake would go on a car if you were non turbo. you could not buy an AEM style, etc, CAI and use it with a turbo kit

either that or you might have an intercooled turbo kit, which some believe there is no point drawing "colder" air in just to cool it again through the intercooler before sending it to the throttle body.... some msp owners do use this method however with an injen cai.

can i not put the cai on the turbo itself?

are you going to be using an intercooler? I'm not familiar with where the cai runs to on the 3, but for all I know yes, you could run pipe right to the turbo with a filter on the other end somewhere cold air is being taken from. Now you won't be able to find a cai you can buy to do this, but if you wanna make one it's all you. Posting more information in the future would help others to be able to answer your questions.

ummm... what you need most of all, more than all that shit, is to read up on how exactly all that stuff works. Sorry, I'm not trying to be a jack ass, but it's the truth. This forum is a great place to learn about all of that. Start by google'ing some simple things like turbo, ecu, fuel management, manifold, wastegate, boost, etc. www.howstuffworks.com (http://www.howstuffworks.com/) is also a great place to start. But if you wanna bolt a turbo on your car, by all means....

Oh, and you will also need this before any parts :

I strongly suggest that you read Maximum Boost: Designing, testing and Installing Turbocharger Systems by Corky Bell.

It will answer all the questions you have about setting up a turbo system.
