Saw this on the injen site. It won't prevent sucking in water(although you can by not taking the MSP for a swim).

Injen guy 1: Let's sell them an intake systems that helps their cars breathe easier

Injen Guy 2: Great Idea!, but people are scared of hydrolocking their engines

Injen Guy 1: I Know! Let's sell them a "PRE-Filter" that will re-restrict the filter BUT sound like it will actually help prevent hydrolocking, when in all actuality, it won't do jack

Injen Guy 2: Make more money providing an imaginary solution to a problem that we made...... Genius ...

that's exacly like the K&N pre-filter thing ....

the only thing that would do is make your filter not as dusty.. hahah

doesnt that aem thing work as long as your not giving alot of throttle in water? obviously if the car sinks or something you would be fubared but for puddles it could work..

k&n uses them for the offroad trucks.. stops sand and mud from getting in the filter.. thats all they are good for

You have to completely submerge your filter in order to suck water into the engine, which is VERY DEEP. If you are driving in that, you've probably already stalled because the tail pipe would be submerged first. Not to mention you'd have to be a complete idiot to drive in water that deep with a car like this. That's what a CJ with a snorkle kit is for.

The funny thing is that they say that it's not waterproof, only water repellent. So basically it stops water drops and mist from getting into the intake charge. The only arguement that I can see for it is that it prevents that minimal amount of water from displacing valuable oxygen. Pointless for turbocharged cars since that mist probably helps keep the intake charge cooler.
