Hey, does anyone have any info, or more news on the Corksport front mount intercooler kit, that is suposably in development for the MSP? I was just wondering.

The pipe-mock up was completed along with the mounting and routing of everything.

Next still will be for a produced set of pipes to be tested.

*That info posted on CS's website in regard to this product was only put up about 3 weeks ago.

I sent them an email to keep my up-to-date on the release. If you do that, they will send you a discount code when it comes out for 20% off! They said that it will be $800 or less, so with that code it's $640 or less! That's a damn good deal for an FMIC kit if you ask me. Plus you know that Corksport is always looking out for the Protege community.

I talked to them at the beginning of January and they said that the prototype needed some adjustments and more testing and that it would be ready in March. It doesn't sound like it's scrapped at all to me. If they deliver it at a good price, there will be a bunch of people buying it that otherwise would be FMIC-less (like me).

We are still working on the kit. We are discussing wether we will do a single run or several , depending on the market. Price is still targeted at >$800. Everything must be perfect before this kit goes out.
Also, we recently made another change to the kit to clean up the final install.

I know, so since it hasn't been made yet, it's cheaper just to buy their core and get the MAM piping kit. The Corksport FMIC has the outlets atthe bottom, whereas the MAM core is centered, but it won't matter.

Cold pipe as close to the throttle body as possible for the BOV to be recirculated after the MAF on the intake pipe.

I'm beginning to think this will not work with the P5 radiator and condensor - just based upon where the piping is routed on the driver's side. Either that, or there is a lot of cutting involved.

EDIT: have any pics of how the piping is routed on the driver's side near the radiator and whatnot?

Really? My MAM is routed through the hole in the driver's side so we must have a different setup (I have the MSP replacement). Either way, I really like how this kit is setup. I'd just have to modify it a little for my use (BOV flange, cut for relocated MAF, etc.). Can't wait for this to come out.

I think it will will let you use the bigger stock radiator. If you look at this pic you can see that the stock smic is still in place. If that's still there then the piping has to go around it somehow. People with MSPs can either leave the smic there or upgrade to the bigger P5 radiator.

What do you guys think?

Looks pretty clean. Well done. How do you like the FMIC vs your old smic.

is that how low the piping will sit with the cork sport piping? if so i dont know if i want in on this, seems like it would scrape REALLY easy... can someone post a pic of the corksport without the front bumper on

Your bumper will scrape before the pipes will.

i love the front mount, soooooo much more pull, i'm running a dual valve setup and the MAF is still in the stock location, no stalling problems, while we were building and putting on the tubing i was worried about how low the are, the neighborhood i live in is filled with 6" high speed bumps so when i came to first one my heart was pumping but it made it over fine, it doesn't scrape coming out my driveway either, i don't park all the way forward in parking lots cause my car is lowered, i am still very carefull though, thank you for all the compliments guys, total the kit cost me $630, so so worth it!!!

I don't have any good pictures of the path the intercooler pipes take. The pipes go around the end of the core support on each side instead of under it so they are not visible from the front of the car.

Do you need to cut holes for the piping?

Yes, you do. The point for the factory hold downs bolt up is where the piping passes. You have to un-bolt them and trim a 1/2 circle shape there. You also have to trim a section of the plastic under tray in the other half of the circle for the piping to pass.

It really isnt much trimming though.

Nice! Is this kit entirely mandrel bent (i.e. not sectioned) for optimal flow? Secondly, would you be willing to sell just the pipes and couplers? I have your IC core already but my piping is a little yucky :) Send me a private message if you want! Thanks

CorkSport

We used mandrel bent piping for the kit. You can kind of see some mandrel bent sections had to be welded together because the bends are impossible to make in one piece for the machine.

That looks really good, my pipes are sectioned too, bends where we could put them but welded to get tighter bends, the guy who did mine is an amazing fabricator and i just have to bragg about the welds he lays, nickel welds man, he doesn't use a welding rod, i do like the corksport kit you offer tho, i just couldn't wait so i had to have it customized :)

Even the HiBoost kit requires trimming of the back of the polymer bumper, no big deal. Some kits require cutting of the metal...

wow that looks freakin nice! Dumbass question, if I had this kit and ever upgraded a turbo so that it sat straight instead of slanted, would it no longer work? It's just one pipe that would need to be modified correct? for 700 thats a freakin deal!
