Plug Gap ?

I replaced the NGK's on my P5 tonight. No clue how many miles were on them. I put some bosch Platinum's gapped at .40. I checked the ngk's and they were way over the .43 that the manual has. Granted it could have been due to wear on the plug, but would there be another reason to "over" gap the plug? Should or could I notice a difference now?

Not a big difference. The gap does open as the plug errodes.

Mostly the idle will be smoother.
