The only two companys that I have heard of making cf trunks is JSP and VIS. VIS doesnt list it on the site so you would have to call and I think the same goes for JSP.

i called VIS today, spoke with my rep over there. The trunk is no longer a stocking item, so they will need to make it. lead time from order time to production is 3 weeks. retail price is $499 plus shipping. your price from ProtegeGarage is $449 plus shipping. PM me for a shipping quote.

3 weeks is hella long plus the time to ship and have everyone's done. I'm sure there are delays aswell. $450 is decent but still up there, but how's the qualty? the other cf trunk GB was "high 300's" and looked pretty good.
anyone have a problem with the amount time to be produced or price?
If so, Anyone have contact with JSP? maybe they still have their mold.

JSP's are special order and take something like 4-6 weeks. They're made overseas.
supman
09-09-2005, 01:55 PM
ok then, is there goin to be GB on the VIS then?
should start a GB thread
how much cheaper if we can get 10 ppl in?

if i recall the jsp ones are a hell of a lot nicer. on top of that ViS's cf quality is usually crap. anyone have pics of the 2 so we can compare and contrast?

actually.. if i can maybe i can get gemini to make them. They are the ones that made the reverse cowl hood.
A gemini one would be sweet! It would match the hood i'm going to get. But if we could do a group buy on the VIS one to get prices down a bit, then i'd still get one most likely

these are made to order, i am not sure VIS will discount them even if we do ten. i will inquire with them and post here if they are willing to do a volume discount.
if there are not ten people (or however many it takes to get this GB done) that are SERIOUS and actually have the money, i am not even going to pick up the phone and call VIS.

I tried to get a group together for Fiber Images to make them... But there was very little serious interest.

thats one of my biggest pet peeves...there are always people who are 'interested' but they back out when the price comes out.
pieces like this and the fiber images evo hood are expensive because they are custom made/one off pieces. like the people that told me a grand was too expensive for a MAM tubular manifold (headshake
i can call JSP or Gemini if there is some serious interest but i have a feeling VIS is going to be the best and cheapest option. 3 weeks is also pretty reasonable amount of time considering the nature of the product.

It is... that shiz needs to be sent overseas!
There's lots of Protege guys in BC... Gemini would probably be a good option for having these made. They already have a presence in the Protege world.
*depending on price I may be interested also... I said I was done spending money on my car, but I'd sure looooove a carbon trunk. :)
I'm seriously interested. Does the VIS one have a keyhole?
A.V.MSP

yes it does. It has everything your stock one has

09-09-2005, 05:44 PM
for under $500 I'd be down
but more then that, forget it,I already went through the effort to shave all the badges, and spoiler from my trunk.
thats another thing,I wouldn't want ANY badge,or spoiler holes in it.
A.V.MSP
09-09-2005, 05:46 PM
no holes for badges or spoiler either

2) Dante- Thapro1 i need one to match my hood now:D plus no shipping required for me:D
Gemini is just about caught up with orders i believe and their other person is back in the country. From what i know, even Gemini would need at least 10 people to do this. (and there is the matter of those other grills.)
But indeed, it wouldn't be hard to get them a trunk to use. Right Supman? lol

I listed VIS on our site for $475... They are out of stock now and do not have an ETA. Some might be in a container they are getting soon.
Anyone have a pic they'd let me use for our site?

Hehehe....just waiting for the trunk so I can do the c/f roof layover too.
I'am thinking that maybe I can fit an EVO c/f wing instead...that way all the horizontal planes will be in c/f

hey when you find out how much that will run let me know. I REALLY plan on doing that. Im going for a cf stripe effect starting from my cf grill going to the trunk. (painting the hood to help with the strip).

I know....its just a thought....it looks really square from the side....but I do like the c/f center....and our wing is completely molded so it might not look right with the c/f center.

Thanks...one question does the JSP have the carbon fiber trim around the keyhole, or did you have to use the factory or get the DG cover?
MP3Architect
11-09-2005, 02:02 PM
it came with the trim but its black, not c/f. which is fine by me.
