Out of Gas light

Hi.

Yesterday, I was driving around, and the sun hit my instrument cluster. I noticed something I hadn't seen (and didn't even know I had): a out of gas light.

ok, so it never came on since I have the car.

questions:

how much gas is left when it comes on (gallons or liters (i'm cdn))
and how do I know it's still working, without having to walk 400 km because I thought it would come on...

Basically, ZERO Pressure in the Fuel System and the Car will shut it self off and trigger that light to prevent Air from entering the system.

it should come on when the gauge is almost on empty

meh, I've driven up to 20km with that light and not run dry...but it still scares me everytime.

I odn't think he's talking about the little orange fuel warning light, I think he's talking about something else, like an actual light that says "Out of fuel" or something.

actually, it is the orange light, but I've often passed the empty bar and haven't seen it come on. I've had the car for over 21 months now and never saw it on.

Anyway, maybe it's me that too chicken to run out of gas, or wither it simply doesn't work anymore.

Is there a fuse or something to check? And is the instrument cluster as easy to take out as my old 91 civic I had back in the days, so I could simply change the light bulb?

That's very odd. Mine usually comes on with about 1/8th of a tank left.

i think it's when u have a gallon of gas left. i've purposely driven my car until it ran out of gas, just to see how long it will go. i had like half a gallon of gas with me in the passenger seat. i was coming from lenox mall all the way up to holcomb bridge exit(i think it's exit 7). i put the cruise control on and had it set at 65mph. i think that's about 20 miles of distance maybe more or less, so give or take about a gallon of gas left. also, my light comes on and then it goes off and then like comes back on and like less than a minute later my car shuts off. has anyone else tried this? im pretty sure it is a gallon of gas left. i did that about a year in a half ago. also, another thing, when u park on hills the gas meter is thrown off. i park my car in my driveway and it always tell me that i have less gas that what's in the car. like when i start driving the meter goes to where it's suppose to be set at.

my low gas light comes on at about 1/8th of a tank, but ive gone atleast 35 miles and my car didnt sputter or anything...pulled up to the pump and donated a shit load of money to the middle east.
