I think that the seals on my turbo are or might be going up!! I was driving to work when I heard a loud whistle sound.. I think that the seal are fried or something... I noticed a slight oil leak on the return side of the turbo maybe that has something to do with it...

well does anybody known where I can get a sel kit just in case or if anybody has a spare turbo laying around I have a few buck but not a lot.. so let me know

You may have an oil leak around the pipes and that should be easily fixed. I wouldn't jump on buying a new turbo just yet. There is absolutely no chance of taking it to the dealership if no no other reason than a diagnostic?

The whistling sound is also caused by vac leaks in the wastegate line and around the nipples on the T's. Also check teh connections around the pipes on the intercooler.

thamks for the helpful ideas .. as soon as my ride takes me home I will check those things out!
-I already checked the piping
-I will double check the wastegate
-And also fix the leak on the return side

thanks Mark

I sincerely hope so, but I will keep an eye on this thread and if you have more questions, I do the best I can, as will others.

Like I said before, I seriously doubt you have a blown turbo. That is very rare from what I have seen. However, I have seen a lot of bad wastegates, and since they are internal, the dealership usually just replaces the whole turbo.

Fix your leak and put zip ties on all the nipples on your T's. Also, besure you bend your vac hoses while you are inspecting them and make sure there are no cracks. A minute crack won't leak vac but under 10 lbs of pressure they open up like a taco.

Mine whistles every once and a while, it's pretty random.

Turbos are SUPPOSED to whistle.

If it is a screech, then get worried.

Yeah, but some times I am not sure this is a good whistle. I am just waiting to be the first person who's MSP explodes.

wish I had that hook up!! But I tigthen up the oil line and I am still having the problem.. wel basically I can hear the center section spinning very very loudly.. so I check the feed line to make sure that I was still getting oil to the turbo.. do you think since I just changed the type of oil that I use that it could make a difference.. (From 5w-30 to 10w-30)
I am open to all suggestions!!
thanks for the help so far though..

check waste gate line for a leak. also do a vac test on the turbo boost line if it has vacum its good turbo. did you reset the ecu? 10w is thicker oil then 5w do you use synthtic oil? Soon as i switched over to synthetic oil mine leaked.

my turbo chirps like I have a cricket in my turbo... doesn't do it all the time, but a few times a day when I drive it. It is really annoying since it is fucking loud and doesn't add to the cool factor pulling up with a bunch of pissed off crickets screaming at everyone, from my turbo!!!

are you blowing smoke from your exhaust, mainly white? if you are then you definitely have blown turbo seals, but if you're not you just eliminated half of the turbo, at least you know the exhaust side's not leaking

solospeed
08-29-2005, 06:53 PM
no smoke!! I did find a small hole on the bottom of the wastegate???!!!??? Is that supposed to be their.. or is it supposed to be a plug or something in it??? I basically blow air thru the vacuum lines to find any holes or leaks and that is what I found

if your air filter becomes too restricted the turbo will start to pull oil from the
compressor shaft seal. if this happens it will start to dammage the bearings.
i have replaced many Turbocharger assemblies on the 7.3 and the 6.0 power strokes because people dont check or replace their air filters.

let me tell you what your problem is... you listened to those idiots about the dynos and how they roam the earth. Everyone who has passed kindergarten knows that dinosaurs are extinct. They died a million years ago. I dont know why these fuck-ups say otherwise or why they feel the need to post this on a car forum. I mean we are here to aid each other in our car projects. SO let me give you a little advice about this problem of yours. What you need to do is roll up your damn sleeve insert your hand at the intake and pull the gnome that got tangled up in your compressor wheel. He may resist a little and you need to look out for his teeth cause the little bastard will bite you. If you cant get him out with your hands just spray insecticide in there and smoke the little fucker out. Good luck and cheerio!

I am looking for the service manual for the speed but no luck so far!!I have only found p5's. I received a code for "system running lean" and my o2 sensor I can understand the o2 sensor because I am cat less... so first off I am going to check and change my injectors and or fuel system. I have some spare parts so after that I will see...

"The codes was #p1170 I think"
