Hey, so my firend has a 99 eclipse gs...he just bought one of those E-Ram superchargers...the kind that run inline w/ the intake......the suprising thing is...it actually made the car noticeably quicker on acceleration...i just wanted to know if anyone knew much about these things...cause it sounds like a waste of $ 2 me.

If it sounds too good to be true, it is.

I haven't seen the "E-Ram" specifically, but even if it does work there's always a trade-off somewhere.

it looks to be a intake with a small electric fan in it.. hehe..

Are you just angling for negative rep? :D

Not from me, not from me.

do we really need another on of these threads?

yes, we do need more of these threads. And we need more threads about $20 ebay chips that add 30hp. I dyno'd with an ebay chip and made 35 more whp.

evilmonkeyMSP

where can I get one of these ebay chips?

LOL

Is the ebay chip compatible with the electric supercharger? Shiiiit, that'd be mad hp.

If you want a supercharger, buy a supercharger. Don't waste money on things like this. If it cost's $20, "adds perfomance" and has lots of moving parts, and you put if after your air filter, you < smart.

On that note, I know where you can get a good deal on a real supercharger :D http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=115008

The electric supercharger is just a boat bilge pump. You can go look up the parts on any boat parts site and compare them to any electric supercharger being sold. They cost anywhere from $14 to around $50. They cannot push enough air to give any type of compressed air. The whole point to a supercharger is pushing compressed air into the engine. The pump just blows air like a fan. All they do is sell a bilge pump, some wires to put on a switch and cut some pvc to fit your car. Then some throw on a cheap filter that fits. There have been people that have said after using it for awhile, the fan inside the pump busted and threw pieces of plastic into the engine and I have never seen 1 person who could back up any horsepower gain.

E-Supercharger takes it's power from your ALTERNATOR and Electrical.

There is No Magic There.

are real Electric Superchager

Haha, yeah and they STILL suck. With the thomas knight shit, you get a brief, 15 second boost of like 30 hp then you have to wait a half our or something for it to recharge, but the whole time it's charging, you're still lugging around half a ton of extra batteries.

This month's Popular Mechanics reviews a bunch of products that claim to increase HP and gas milage such as the Tornado intake...take a look the next time you're at Barnes and Nobel. The conclusion was that they all do jack shit.

The Power to drive it has to come from somewhere... Alternator...

On a cerious note, it wouldn't take any more power to run it than it would your average sound system. A gain is a gain, but I wouldn't want to do it just because everyone would laugh.

Ok, So you are telling me that this is like a Perpetual Motion Device.

It costs HP to Drive the Alternator to drive the 20 Amp Motor, End of Story. HP Goes Up, Load On Electrical brings it back down. Plus your alternator will die early. JUNK!

Plus as stated earlier, the fan melts due to the extreme heat in your engine bay, and pieces go into your engine....pa-pow.

No, it's not like a perpetual motion device, and I dont think it's wise to do this at all, but id does add hp. It will put a little more load on the alternator, but it's the same theory as a supercharger; there is parasitic drag, but the HP boost more than makes up for it.

Meh, you very well might be right, but I think it would yield at least a small boost. I'm sure as hell not gonna try it though.
