Does the size of a speaker wire matter when hooking up a subwoofer? Should I buy 18 gauge which seems to be the thickest wire available or should I use thinner wire? Would it make a difference in sound quality? I'm thinking that maybe a thicker wire would allow more current to pass through... I'm not sure though

What do you guys think?

The thickness of the wire depends on how long it is and how much current the sub will draw. 18GA will work OK for fairly short lengths (~6 feet or so) as long as the amp is not a 1000w monster. Personally, I always use 12-14GA so any losses, if any, are minimal.

for a sub depending on run and power i wouldn't really go any lower then 16 (small 8 with less then 200 watts) if you are running a 10 or 12 with more then 250 watts i would suggest 14 and 12 awg accordingly... you can pick up any of those gauges at wall mart they carry the scoshe (sp) brand...
