View Full Version : larger rear wheels with different offset?
I’ve been looking at purchasing some new rims and I have the opportunity to purchase a pair of 17x8.0 rims with +42 offset (for the rear) and a pair of 17x7.5 rims with a +45 offset (for the front).
I thought it might be a nice subtle touch and perhaps improve handling bit. The idea is that it’s sort of like running spacers with out the spacers. Does anyone know if there are performance drawbacks to running a set up like this? Rotating the tires will be a bitch and with the +42 offset in the rear I might have to roll the fenders once I drop the height. I’m not too worried about those two issues. I’m more worried about the cars performance.

i don't think you can fit a 17x8 on the protege. 17x7.5 is the largest.

It's not gonna improve handling. The rear tires are getting pulled, not pushed. And...you can't run 8 inches in the rear. Too wide. Look at the people on this forum..the widest is 7.5. and 7.5 +42 w/ 215/35 tires will rub the rear of the protege
cool -thanks for the input

From what I can tell I should be albe to run 17 X 7.5 +45 offset (5x 114.3 fitment) with 215/40 tires, right?
