View Full Version : stupid me: help! im stupid, cut my o2 sensor wire in half!

uh so i was fooling around with my a.f gauge trying to install it, and oops, slippe dup and cut the o2 sensor in half , the wire that is in the engine bay, so me being sweet , i cut the part where ther is the wire shielding and now the car wont start... hmm ???!!! help. please.

Best solution would be soldering back together, and covering with heat shrink tubing.
Or you could just use one of those screw on wire connectors that electricians use.

being an electrician, i would advise against using a wire nut (screw on connector). soldier it back together and use heatwrap or something is your best and most reliable method IMO.

I cut that same wire, its a gray fat wire that has the o2 sensor wire in the middle. This setup is called a fuseable link, if any of the silver wires touch the o2 sensors copper wires it grounds the circuit and your o2 will be 0volts. But you should still be able to start your car, it will just run crappy. Try to cut all the silver wires away, and then put a butt connector between the o2 signal wire. Even if one stray silver wire touchs the o2 connection its screwed. Hope this helps.

I think that grey wire has a coax grounding sheild to protect the 02 signal from interference.

oh my god. You cut a wire... so solder it back together and protect it. What am I missing?
