i'm interested in buying a twm short throw shifter. i just wanted to know if i should buy the shifter with a bend or without. which way will make it feel more like stock? also will the stock shift knob fit?

The bend in the bent version of our Mazda 3 shifter is just intended to center the shifter in the shifter cutout so it is the one that will feel more like your stock shifter in terms of shift knob placement. Yes, the stock shift knob will work perfectly but we do recommend upgrading to one of our weighted performance knobs for an even better shift.

We are having a special on the Mazda 3 shifter this month as well so it's a great time to order. You can see all the details here: http://www.twmperformance.com/shortshifters/mazdashortshifters/mazda3shortshifters.htm

Thanks!

I have a straight up STS and it's fine, i see no reason to have the bend other than astetics. It's nice to have the option, but IMHO a 1/2" is not going to bother me.

haha i totally forgot that twm posts on these boards. one last question, this one directly to twm. i was just wondering if you knew that the instructions on your web page for the install of the short throw are broken. i tried to access them last night and i got an error that the file was corrupted. tia.

Just thought I would throw my opinion in here. I have the TWM sts with the bend. I love it. I was talking to someone with the straight sts and he said in fifth gear the shifter almost rubs against the side of the plastic of the console. The bent one is the way to go. I love mine so much.

yeah i am most likely going to get it. i just want to make sure i have instructions to work with since i have never had a car that i could put a short throw on, thus i have no idea what i am doing.

I think I may actually have my instructions I printed out from when I installed mine. I am not at home, but I can possibly mail you the instructions. Or just scan and email them

The TWM instructions actually make it more difficult than it needs to be. They have you completely removing the center console (IIRC) but you only really need to pop off the top cover.

Either way, it's no big deal. You should be able to do it without any problems.

so there is a way to just pop off the cover that is over the shifter?

Yup. I'd explain it to you but it's already been done for me. :D

in regards to the factory warrantee, will a short shifter void it? i am about to buy the package from TWM and i just wanted to know if anybody has the gun blue shift knob. i want to know what color it actually is bc on their website, it looks black.

It's not really blue. It's more of a glossy black finish. It's nice.
