Everyone says that it is not possible to install a 42+ offset on the speeds.....or even a 40+. Whoever claimed this is wrong! Dont roll the fenders, spend the money and have them grinded off! My car currently has Sportlines and a rim with a 42 offset, tires 215/40. No rubbing issues at all! So for all of you buying rims....go for it....if you have upgraded suspension? you should have no trouble what so ever because you can adjust the camber....hell, do 19s...... I will post pics when i install the rims again, i am using the rest of my current tread on the racing harts till then.

It is a known fact that the sedan has more room in the rear wheel wells than the protege5's.

Grinding is a dumb idea. Of course you won't rub if you grind them off..... but if someone's door so much as touches that fender, hello crease. If you don't see the crease you could damage the tire due to rubbing or crunch the fender.... depending on the crease. I vote for keeping my nice fenders and just buying the right offset.

It depends on the situation. I'm not surprised +42 works. Myself, I tried +40 with 205/55/16 tires and it DID rub - so I wouldn't make the conclusion that +40 will work for everyone. You're running a smaller tire than stock too - so even your +42 situation might be a little misleading. Also, give it a little time - I didn't rub on my +40 for about 2 months and then all of a sudden I noticed it rubbing on very rare occasions. You might still rub yet although I do doubt it.:)

columbus, ga.....two hours south of atl.....to be truthful with you, with the fenders it looked like there was still 1 inch clearance prior to the grind...the only way it would rub the existing fender is if i were to hit a major bump or dip.

u can have +40 offset and not rub. it all depends on how much you drop your car.

is your tire tucking under the fender with the sportlines?

I use to go to some car spots in atlanta near buford and the mall of ga. I cant quite remember the name of the exit....but anyway i never once saw a speed in atlanta....pretty weird.

whats up man! BTW Easy install no probs at all! No...the car sits the width of an index finger above the wheel....w/ a full tank of gas and a system. Up front is about one and a half.

hey how much of a drop did the sportlines give? i'm on stock springs and i swear the rear sits low. i prolly have a little less than an inch before the tire starts tucking.

you will sit right above the tire....that is with a 225/40.... Like i said earlier, it is about one index finger (width). You might have to angle the finger upward to fit.....maybe 6mm?

ic. i'm running 215/45. so that's a little over 3/4" difference in height compared to a 215/40 tire. looks like i'll be tucking for sure. hope i don't start rubbing the fender.

well you'll have to go with a lower profile tire for sure. 215/35 or 215/40. you might be able to squeeze them in then. but remember, mojoetcm said he had to grind the fenders down.

When you grind, you only grind off what's needed anyways. There's at least 3/4" of lip you can work with and the only section you have to grind off is about 4-5" long. I ground mine off, then had it smoothed, sanded, sealed and recleared/painted. The "right" way if you will. Also..I agree..getting the right offset wheels is the best idea.

Sweetlou - no +42 won't be ok w/ a 18x7.5 with +42 215/40 tires. You might consider 18x7.5 215/35 and AT LEAST +45

yea....it is not the size of the rim that matters, it is the offset in our cases, if you are doing 18's make sure you have a low profile tire and a 42+ offset. There are a few speeds that rarely post on this forum with 19's. You dont have to grind the fenders btw. I just did that because the fold looks ugly as hell and will chip the paint over a period of time if done incorrectly. It only cost like 100 bucks....Now for the people with 19's i am not sure if they have upgraded suspension, if so they can mess with the camber which means a lot when it comes to rubbing the fender.
