Jaguar is now offering two new versions of its entry-level X-Type luxury sedan. The 2005 X-Type Sport features subtle but appealing new bodywork, a dual exhaust, rear decklid spoiler and blacked-out upper and lower mesh grilles. New performance rubber — wrapped around larger 18-in. wheels — further improves the handling of the all-wheel-drive 4-door, which is powered by a 227-bhp V-6. Optional real carbon fiber can take the place of wood in the well-appointed interior that uses Alcantara for the seating surfaces. The X-Type Sport lists for $36,695, including destination.
The X-Type VDP (Vanden Plas) takes the car up the luxury road with beautiful walnut wood trim, a leather and wood steering wheel as well as leather seats with contrasting color piping (the front seats are heated). Other amenities include 17-in. alloys, a programmable garage door opener, VDP badging and a 320-watt 10-speaker AM/FM/CD sound system by Alpine. The VDP edition, with destination, is priced at $37,945
