View Full Version : Turbo Kit Installed!

Before I begin I would like to thank Juan and his partners for the 100s of hours they have put into developing and fabricating this kit for the 3. I would also like to thank Juan and his partners for the time and effort they put into installing and tuning my kit this weekend.

Going into this my nerves were already frazzled. My lack of knowledge in the area didn’t help. I was quite honestly very nervous and spent many hours in the approaching days thinking about the install when I should have been sleeping.

These nervous feelings for the most part were quickly squashed within minutes of meeting with and talking to Juan. His kind, courteous and professional demeanor put me at ease. What doubts I did have quickly vanished once he began work. With the skill of a surgeon he began dissecting my car and preparing it for what I can only describe is a compete transformation into a turbo driven beast.

The car is very fast and quick. It pulls hard and accelerates quickly with no hesitation at any time. But enough of all that. Here are some pictures.

Note* Juans son was there on both build days.. all day.. And I must say is the most well-mannered even tempered child I have ever met. Juan is quite proud of him.

Well thats about it for now.. I havent really even unpacked yet or taken a shower  I promised pics and wanted to get this up as soon as possible so it's not very detailed.
I will post more pics of the finished product and give a more detailed account and description of the installation and components once I have settled back in. I will also get some video clips which I am sure everyone will enjoy.

im curious to see what the dyno says for the sedan, i have seen the gains on the hatch but i think our car is lighter.

i love the pictures, very nice work from juan, too bad im so far away cause if i had someone competent to do the work i would have jumped on this a long time ago. I just dont trust anyone in this area, not many very skilled people.

In any case, great pictures, get some videos up and most definitely we need a dyno!

shane02pro5

Vehicle weight will not have an effect on a dyno because the car is not moving. I think it's only a matter of maybe 200lbs which may very slightly improve timeslip numbers. Believe me with the high numbers being put down you will not know the difference.

That's the kind of stuff we like to see and hear around here! Juan has been nothing but helpful to me. I had a chance to meet up with him last year while I was out in Los Angeles. Didn't have time to go for a ride in the HiBoost P5 because they were hard at work developing the MSP FMIC. It still had some of the tack welds I beleive!

Second that. I'm still trying to figure out who in Massachusetts is trust worthy. I know of good Audi tuners here.. but this would be the first time with Mazda. In a way, I'd just find an Audi tuner to bolt on the stuff since Juan seemed to indicate the kit didn't need tuning (just install).

I'd try to install it myself, but usually things fall to pieces when I start to dis/re-assemble things.

Not sure of the weight of the kit.. after removing the stock manifold it is probably negligible. There is no impact in handling or turning(unless you count entering and exiting turns alot faster).
Havent added the LSD yet.

I have planned for the near future clutch, fly, lsd and brake pads. I also need new rubber very soon as what is on there has just about had it.

I have the stock goodyear RSAs with about 8500 mi on them. The roads here are incredibly bad so they havent held up well.. I'm not one to do burnouts and the like but these tires look pretty bad.. I have however spun the tires a few times in the past couple days on accident(kinda easy to do now).

70-100 LBS? I stand corrected. Learn something new every day. Come to think of it that cast iron manifold seemed very stout.

As for the clutch, Ken I am in a holding pattern till I can get some funds back in the car account (1-2 weeks). I am also waiting to hear back from Nikolas about some possible store credit. So you don't need to hold it for me. Thank for looking out though.

My stock P5 clutch lasted about two days until it started slipping in second.
You will definately appreciate the Proxes 4's that's what I have and I love them. The grip in wet is very good. In Houston, lately anyway, it rains a little pretty much every other day.(wrc)

I didn't realize the Hiboost 3 kit uses the same IHI VF22 that I have in my P5.

I actually ordered the 3 then changed the order after looking at torque specs and considering driveability. I wont be putting out enough torque for a stage 3 unless i go fordged internals.. Which would be great but is a major ordeal I dont see happening for quite some time if at all. I am trying to go overboard but it appears one mod leads to another..lol

Well I picked up the car today. I managed to put 150+ miles on it the new clutch and fly. First I headed down south to Pismo beach using frontage roads. Then made my way back north through the back roads. I pointed the car north and headed up Highway 1 towards big sur. Lots of shifting on this very windy road with lots of inclines. A very scenic drive but not the best road to get to relaxed on as going off the road at most any point gives you a 50/50 chance of either 1. Hitting a cliff face or 2. Driving off a cliff which would drop you several hundred feet. Also boulders tend to fall onto the roadway in some spots.

Anyway.

First impression- Clutch pedal is much lighter and engages quicker. No negative affect on drivability what so ever.
Flywheel gets the revs up quicker. No negative effects noticed. I had no problem pulling steep hills and had all the top end I could handle while keeping the revs down for the break in period.

Shocks and struts... car seems to handle a bit better. I didn’t push to hard as I am still breaking in my new tires. The car is however nearly a 1/4 inch lower. One of my floor jack usually require me to lift on the fender then slide the jack under the rail... It took allot more lifting to make it fit after the install.

Stock clutch and fly... well they weigh a ton. I was actually shocked at how heavy they were compared to the spec clutch and fidanza fly. Ill grab some pics of the stock stuff later.

Motor mount.. Ill be installing that tomorrow as well as the A/F gauge.

Ill add more later as I have much stuff going on the next couple days with going to L.A. and what not.
