So, I was having more stereo issues (NOOOOO?!?!?!) and the guys at my dealer popped my HU out to check on the connections. Well after they put it back in, a new sound comes from the housing that is fuckin un-bearable. Although it clips in just like before, it now jiggles and makes a squeaky squeaky noise that is fuckin awful. We have tried pulling it out, putting it back in, still the same intolerable jiggle-squeak noise. Anyone else dealt with this? Did you end up setting the car ablaze to destroy this noise? It may come to that, as I can hear this sound when the HU is on 25+ volume.

take it back and tell them to fix it. or get some better speakers and go to 30 on the knob :)

you mean there is a worse sound than a fucked up MP3 obtained via questionable means?

Exactly what happened to my second h-u. Buy some sticky-sided felt and wrap the corners with it. Then anywhere else you think it may be rubbing. It only takes a few small, strategically placed pieces.

The same thing happened to me. Pull the head unit out to see if it still has the rubber boot that goes over the stud coming out of the back of the unit. If its not there than that maybe your problem.

Same thing happened (and is still happening) to me. I've taken it back to mazda several times but they are useless so I guess I will finally stop being lazy and do it myself. I ordered a new cage for like $1 on ebay but i'm not sure if that is the exact problem. If that doesn't work I'll put some electical tape around it or felt like the other guy said and hopefully that will stop it. If you get to stop let me know what you did.

I think I may have a solution for the problem, hopefully it is permanent. I went on ebay and ordered a replacement cage that secures the head unit in. It was only $1 + $5 shipping. I got it today and put it in and so far no squeaking but we'll see if it holds up.

Yeah, from looking at it the cage seems to be the source of the noise. AROJDSFKJAFJEJRASDFUCKER!!!!, it's just such an ANNOYING noise, let me know if the cage replacement works, I am going to try electrical tape.

i've had that squeak since the day i got my first HU replaced, i kinda like it because it reminds me of driving that really fast all carbon fiber mazda 787 in GT-4 plus my car is ghetto tastic. i think i have the noisiest MSP ever, especially when i don't lube the tops of my GC coilovers every 3 weeks

Well the replacement cage didn't work completely. It made the noise now only on the biggest of bumps, but that was still too much for me. I did what you said you were going to do and wrapped the edges of the cd player in electrical tape and now no squeaks no matter how big the bump or vibration. I wrapped that screw coming out of the back of the deck with tape, too, just in case. You may have to use some force getting the deck back in to the cage but it'll work. Let me know if it works.

to bring this thread back from the dead...

i got my head unit replaced for the second time and fortunately for me it is making this fucking squeaking noise. im so excited about this new rattle! so wrapping the head unit with electrical tape will actually fix this noise becuase it is driving me nuts.

I wouldn't wrap the entire thing in electrical tape. The unit needs to breathe through all the perforations in the metal. If you cover everything up it will overheat. Try just adding a strip of electrical tape to the corners first.
