View Full Version : 98-02 626 (V6) Front Calipers fit MSP
Hey,
Just thought I'd put this out here since my search didn't show anything last week about caliper fitment.
I just replace my front calipers last night with ones from a 98-02 Mazda 626 with 2.5 V6. I swapped the seal around the bottom slide pin because I liked the original one better than the one that came with the reman. Otherwise no modification needed.

Thats cool to know. Got any pics? Do they look cooler than msp calipers? And did you team these up with the 626 rotors also? Thx

rotors, pads and calipers from a v6 626 have different part numbers than the msp, but they are direct bolt on and perform just as well

are they cheaper than msp brakes? do they have 11" in the rears on the 626 as well?

the rears on the msp do not seem to match with any other mazda vehicle, though some think they might be the same as the rears on the 3rd gen rx7.
the 626 parts are TONS cheaper than mazdaspeed parts.

And here's a set of rotors on ebay click here. (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PROBE-626-MX6-PROTEGE-DRILLED-SLOTTED-RACE-BRAKE-ROTORS_W0QQitemZ7989324623QQcategoryZ33564QQrdZ1QQ cmdZViewItem)

those will not fit the msp or the v6 626 - those are for the 4 cylinder models of 626 and are actually replacements for p5s and ES sedans and ford probes

I was going to try out 3rd gen RX7 rotors on the back, but I didn't have the time or money to commit. I do know that the rear pads are the same size as the 3rd gen RX7 though...

can anyone confirm whether the 1998-2002 626 V6 rear rotors and pads fit the MSP?
Does the RX7 stuff fit?
Thanks

From what I got the rear 626 rotors do not fit on the MSP, maybe the FD3S but no one has tried or come out and said that they do.

How about the 1985-95 RX7 rear pads and rotors for the MSP?
I know form the Axxis site that pads are the same part #, does anyone know if the rotors will work?
How about the 2003-2004 Mazda 6 rears?

From what I can determine, the pads are the same, but the rotors are not even close. The rear rotors onthe RX-7 are vented, and thus would be too wide to fit the Mazdaspeed Protege caliper.

thanks Njaremka.
Any other options then that you know of?

the rear "rotors" seem to be specific to the mazdaspeed. the mazda6 / ford fusion rear rotors MIGHT work, but i'm not 100% sure on that one yet.

I had to get 02 626 V6 pads/rotors front and 04 6 V6 pads/rotors rear.
10.8 and 11.0 F/R caliper size come on the MSP. The calipers from both of the V6 models should work. 626 Front and 6 rear, V6 models.

not entirely true.
i had the bad luck to have a faulty rear caliper on my msp... i was there when it was changed under warranty.. at a whopping 450$ CDN. plus installatrion.. mine had something broken in the gears that make the handbrake work
so i had one in my hands brand new and saw it had a mitsubishi logo on it.. so i have a hunch it's from a mistubishi car somehwere.. maybe some eclipse have the same calipers in the rear..

ok so...for the front, calipers, rotors and pads from 98-02 mazda 626 v6 fit perfectly no problems...and for the rear 04 mazda 6 v6 rotors and pads fit, how bout calipers?
can we get some comparison size pics on each item compared to the msp parts?

yes, the front and rear rotors are *exactly* the same as the MSP ones.... when I say exact, I mean it's the same part numbers

they're not mitsubishi calipers.... the little symbol on the caliper is far from being the 3 diamonds
I'm not sure who makes them, but they're either akebono or alfred-teeves
