Well dudes and dudettes, should I or shouldn't I get a TWM short shifter? Is it worth the money? Would you guys recommend TWM or Kartboy?

Also, this may be a dumb question, but what if I got someone who is a welder to cut off 2" from my shifter..........would that work? Might be ghetto maybe hey?

Just spit ballin' here.

I dont suggest cutting the stock shifter. The only thing it will do is just shorten it, but throws between each gear will stay exactly the same. TWM and kartboy are both good brands. I have twm gen 2. short shifter along with their shift knob. I love it, reduced the throws by 50%. Dunno by how much kartboy ss reduces the throws but the length of the kartboy is just a tiny bit shorter. Meaning, if to compare both short shifters with same shift knob, shift knob on twm will be sitting just a tiny bit higher than on Kartboy. I love my TWM ss, and definetly recommend it. If you will get a short shifter, which ever choice you make, make sure to get Kartboy shifter bushings, they work wonders!

Will a shift knob that is made for the Mazdaspeed Protege fit onto the regular Protege TWM Short Shifter?

We actually make a shifter specifically for the Mazdaspeed Protege shift knob, if you've got that knob be sure to select the Mazdaspeed Protege as your vehicle while ordering and you'll be fine.

The Mazdaspeed shift knob has the same thread pattern as the standard protege but the knob is much longer so the "shoulder" on the shifter which holds up the shift boot is in a different position than it is on the regular protege/protege5.

Thanks and let me know if there is anything else I can help out with.
