exhaust cutout, water injection

save it until you have enough to buy a downpipe or intercooler.

if you dont have a boost gauge now would be a great time to get one. You already have all of the "cheap" modifications, next logical step would be a front mount.

hundred more or so and you can get DSM Converts AFC and that will help you along nicely.

i need a boost gauge...where do we get teh Defi?

TurfBurn
07-26-2005, 11:49 AM
Defi are really overpriced for what they are... I can get you guys Autometer boost gauges for about 46 bucks.

evilmonkeyMSP
07-26-2005, 11:51 AM
alright.....any decent looking pods for 1 gauge? I really dont feel like doing more...

I can custom cut whatever you want.

evilmonkeyMSP

do you make a single gauge pod for the steering whell column? I remember one company made them but I dont think they do anymore...

The ones I usually do are cut to replace the CD pocket below or above the radio and are stainless steel panels... Autometer I believe carries/makes one for on top of any steering column... there are a lot of options out there overall. but I don't do fiberglass, CF, or plastic parts yet.

isnt that how all threads go around here?

Stewart Warner makes some that are comparably priced to the Autometer and IMHO look nicer.

Yep, a lot of people use them. They aren't too bad from what i know. they don't have much for apperance options.. and they don't match the interiors of the Protege's.... so that's the downside there.

But we really should get back on topic..

I still vote for the AFC for his 200+ bucks over other things.

How do they not match the interior? I think they look nice.

Sorry was thinking MSP... then you need the silver faced Autometer Ultra-Lites which match pretty well.

I have nothing against Stewart Warner gauges other than I dont' think I have a supplier that can get them for me :) LOL.

Thanks for you suggestions. With my current mods, what is the most pounds of boost should I run?

Gut your cats and take off your resanators(if there not already off) or just save it...........

zero psi. but really, leave your boost alone until you have atleast a downpipe.

TurfBurn
07-27-2005, 07:29 AM
regardless of mods... with stock internals I wouldn't push higher than 9 psi ever.

akeem1003
07-27-2005, 09:00 AM
Settling at 9psi or spiking at 9psi because we all know that the MSP doesn't cooperate with boost the way we want it to.

1moreMPH
07-27-2005, 11:04 AM
from all ive read 9-10 psi is all i'd do, im sure a very quick spike a little over that wouldn't hurt, but no higher than that. i'd put a vote in for some gutted/new cats, or the dp for a little more, or the AFC for a little more. the AFC will probably have you drooling to drive your car, that'd prolly make the most change for the better. faster and smoother.

TurfBurn
07-27-2005, 11:39 AM
small spikes are liveable... but running a "held" boost of 9 or 10 is about the limit.

I still support the AFC for most bang and improvement for the money listed.
