So, Mazda5 owners or future owners... what is going to be your first "mod" to the 5?
I'm personally going to tint the back 5 windows (not allowed to tint the front 3 in my Province) first, and then I might look into some other mods like a strut bar or maybe sway bars... :)

i am thinking of adding a Mazda5 section to the site once parts become readily available

Sounds good to me - I am hoping that a lot of the parts for the 3 will fit the 5, since they share the same engine. (only tuned a bit different in the 5)

I think body and audio mods along with rims will be most popular with the 5 crowd.

Springs and swaybars are must for 1st mods. The Body would come second and last but not least the wheels. I like the stock wheels on there already.

Yeah me too Rodscalip5 - I like the stock 17" wheels that came with my 5. :) I've had a couple of Mazda3 owners asking if I want to swap. hehe

First mod - figuring out how to get the ipod hooked up along with how to set up the portable DVD player for the kids. (I'd really like to integrate the 2 screens into the back of the front headrests....we'll see)
First before all else - I'm scotch guarding the seats - those little munchkins better not get my car dirty!!
I've been forbidden to mess with the engine or suspension....where does that leave the compulsive modder?

Well...I think that pretty much leaves you with the ICE (in car entertaiment) or you could look for a local Modders Anonymous support group. (lol2)

my first mod will be hookup a pair of thick wire from battary in engine bay to the center arm rest. I need direct power from battery for my 400w 12v to 110v transformer. I need that for my baby's milk steam warmer. it takes 300Watts, so i cannot use the interior AC outlet which can up 10A max.

Have you guy slooked at Mazda3 suspension stuff?
I know the 5 weighs in a few hundred pounds more, but it sits on the same platform. Mazdaspeed accesories has stuff for the 3 that should fit in no problem.
As for a strut tower bar, good luck. It looks like a tight fit over that battery box under the hood.
I saw an article that H&R springs in Europe has done something for the 5, but I haven't found out what they did exactly.
And, there isn't much room behind the back seats and the lift gate in the rear...Looks like some creative sub mounting will be needed.
PS - Did I mention I like these things? I crawled all over one at the dealership today. They seem pretty cool, with some neat features. I'm not much of a van guy, but this one I'm actually interested in.

I think the springs or coilovers from a 3 will not work for the simple reason weight dist. The load in the 5 will be dispursed a whole lot differently than in a 3 I would think. 3 springs would probably end up sagging in the rear of a 5 very quickly.
As for subs, you're right. Maybe something in the spare tire well? I guess I should get a 5 before I start all this speculation. lol

It's a start. I thought about the weight difference in regards to the rates on the 3 stuff, but I wasn't sure how the 5 carries the extra weight. I'm guessing the roof, lift gate and seats.
And, the spare tire deal sounds like its the only place for something.
Also, if importing expensive stuff sounds like fun, AuotExe has some cool stuff for the Premacy, aka Mazda5...

Is there an american importer of Autoexe stuff? I found the Japanese site and they have lowering springs (30mm), strut bars, tie bars, and some other stuff, as well as body kits.

Everybody will not do it. Trust me, if you get an Autoexe kit on your 5, you will most likely be 1 of a handful. Go to Autornd.com, they import Autoexe stuff, call and ask for Rishie.

I knew that, I was just being sarcastic...which is quite difficult since inflection is hard to convey over the internet.
Thanks for the heads up on where to get parts. I'm new to the mazda world, so I'm pretty uninformed when it comes to suppliers.

Well, I've started to add the DVD system in - still not sure if I like how the screens look and I have to figure out how I'm gonna run the wiring. The back shelf in the glove compartment is awesome!! It's big enough to hold the DVD player and a few DVD's along with the manual, etc.

Thanks on that......only one I have seen for real is Carbon Gray (plus a Strato Blue 3 (same color as a 5 I guess) at the local dealer) and the colors at various internet sites for Phantom Blue are all over the place.
Unfortunately it is 85 miles to the next dealer that has a Phantom Blue in stock and it is not the model/options I want.
Phantom Blue is looking better each time I see it.

Yup - Phantom - yesterday in full sunlight it was looking very green metallic - pics look quite blue though - I guess it's hard to capture the color on film (well not really on film....) since it's so dependent on light.
Tomorrow I have the day off and I'm gonna give it a good wax.

If the interior AC outlet can handle 10A at 110V, that's 1100 watts. Should be more than enough to run your milk steamer.

Don't most modern cars run a 12v electrical system? You'd need a pretty big amp to make 1100 watts.

Pay attention, please. We're talking about a 110V AC (alternating current) outlet that quite a few "modern cars" come with these days. These operate by means of a power inverter that converts the 12VDC that your alternator generates into 110VAC for use with common houshold appliances. If the 110VAC outlet is rated at 10A, then it will operate up to 1100 watts (110V*10A=1100W).
1100W is easier to make with AC than it is with DC. That's why Thomas Edison's DC houshold current never caught on. It required too much effort to transmit it over long distances.

OK. Tint looks great and DVD is nice. How 'bout bolt on extra HP mod's? Tried to buy one this weekend (AT Touring) but everything on the ground has the Nav system. Dealer could be lying (Probably is) but said Mazda screwed up the number on w/Nav vs. w/o Nav. Said they can make changes once they arrive (Don't believe that either).
I liked driving it. Had 3 adults and all was well until the beltway on ramp, drop the hammer test. Wasn't bad and if it was a toyota I'd probaly be happy. I guess I'm looking for that ZoomZoom!! First Mazda. Said I should have it in two weeks tops.
I can't wait till someone gives up those rims :)

Specs on this accessory outlet clearly state 10A @ 12V = 120W

Ok, so that's 10A DC input, not 10A AC output. Big difference.

Tinted windows (20% for the rear 5 windows, 50% in the front 2)
2 7" Headrest Monitors
1 DVD Player
1 Playstation
1 10" Subs in the spare area (tossing out the spare..no need for spare)
2 Amplifiers (1 for subs, 1 for highs/Mids)
19" Inch Rims
Lowering Springs (this may take awhile)
And that's it. No performance mods needed since it's going to be my mini-mini-Van to shuttle the kids and groceries.

--First mod was tint. 17%. Even the little windows by the mirrors. Not the front sides though. Done before we picked it up. $290 CAN.
--Dealer gave us a zoom-zoom sticker, not on yet.
--Winter tires/rims. Hardly a mod, but getting done soon just the same.
--Summer rims or spraying the factory ones with a Infiniti G35 rim-like finish, can't decide.
--Just a bit more bass would be nice...nothing crazy.
-- and before I forget, DON'T try to debadge the "Mazda 5" in the back, unless you want to see holes in your hatch! Let's just say I have to get a new Mazda badge before the wife finds out!!

LOL!!^^^ good luck man... yeah the mazda5 does have holes just like the 3, but the flying m and the 2.3 badges can come off with out leaving a hole behind.... you should get a premacy badge from japan and put that on instead of the 5.... just my .02....

I got mine tinted today (I'll post pics once I take some). It ran me $182 and some change. I got 38%(?) on the sides and 20% on the back window. I went with Sun-Guard's Endurance line. It has a metallic/silverish/reflective appearance too it, but it is NOT the chrome tint (ack!).
It didn't turn out quite as I had hoped, but I am happy none the less. The little "airplane" window, rearmost side window is what screwed it up for me. It would look a ton better if that window was uniform with the rest of the windows on the side. Of well, like I said earlier, I'm happy with it. This film has a lifetime 100% warranty. Any thing, and I mean ANYTHING that happens to it that causes any damage to the film is covered. Fade? It's covered. Bubbles? It's covered. Gouge it with a rake? It's covered. Victim of a smash and grab? It's covered. 10 ga. goose gun accidentally discharges? It's covered.
Oh...man does it make a difference too! Just the little bit that I've driven it with the tint it has been much MUCH cooler inside.
On to the next mod...HIDs (cabpatch)
