OSHAWA, Canada — After GM led the way by offering employee discounts to Americans, it's now playing catch-up by finally offering the same deal to Canadians.

GM was beat to the punch in the Great White North by Ford and Chrysler, which both started offering employee discounts in Canada last week.

As of Tuesday, though, Canada will now be able to partake in the Canada-Wide Clearance sale, which is nominally identical to GM's Employee Discount for Everyone program in the U.S. According to GM of Canada, the prices on all GM vehicles except the Chevy Corvette, Hummer H1 and a few GMC midsize pickups will be eligible for the "employee discount" promotion offered in the U.S.

The Canada-Wide Clearance discounts, which are available at all 785 Canadian GM dealerships, may be combined with other traditional incentives such as zero-percent financing, dealer credit and other programs.

The Employee Discount for Everyone program has put GM's sales at their highest level since September of 1986.

What this means to you: If you're a bowtie fan in Canada, you've no doubt been patiently awaiting this program, eh?
