Now we have the Injen CAI, AEM short ram, and theres this guy in the protegetech group that posted this site for some guys that made him a custom CAI : http://www.mhptuning.com/import.html

thats the pic without the CAI extention.
Anyway, any of you ppl have one of these in your mp3?

Sweet Lord, this changes everything. Yes, there's an Injen and AEM available, but I think people are skeptical to shell out the cash when it *might* not fit (they say Protege 2.0L). It would be a hassle to send it back. But wait! Now we have one that is known to fit. That thing looks pretty sweet, and its awesome that they made it so the AEM bypass will work if you add the CAI extension.
I'm very tempted to buy one of these, but alas, I don't have the cash quite yet. I look forward to future stories of all three intakes. It would also be nice to see some dynos comparing the three.
Thanks for the info!

:) ye that's cool post some pix, and how to install it hehe :D
Does anyone have an idea of what kind of gain you will receive from the new air intake. I think it is worth it for an extra 10 hp.
Does anyone have any information on it performance wise?

I think Injen is shipping out the 2.0 Protege intake within this week. Anybody are going to install one?

ok, as im typing they are installing the CAI on my mp3 in denton, i have to pick it up later (long drive... :( ), i talked about performance, he told me they havent dyno any mp3 but, with a CAI on a tiburon they got 16hp improvement, so he estimates from 9 to 17hp gain, depends on the engine, and also the tiburon was at the flywheel.
but since im a car iliterate, i will just tell u guys if i feel any difference in the driving! :D

Razhael,
Question... How come you didn't try to put it on yourself? I have never done anything to a car myself other than change oil/filter, but that thing looks pretty easy to throw on. Was the installation cheap? Just curious... I look forward to your results on how it "feels" :D...

Hey guys...watch out...some of these CAI kits look like they took some stuff from the local Home Depot and slaped a imitation K&N on it...research before you buy something...

16hp gain? haha~ they must be kidding you...

well i have it installed in my car, was lucky to let them install it for me, got an upgrade just for that :D mine was the first carbon fiber CAI for the mp3, and believe me, its all sweetness, they also gave me some stickers! they will post my ride pics later this week or next week with the carbon fiber CAI, looks wonderful!
Now for performance:
It improves the hell out of this car, trust me on this one, i could never be happier, and for those that say that this job looks cheap, go get a life or get that injen that blows your sensors away. I just put 125 to the mp3 and it was wonderful, i would say about 12-14 more hp for real, now, i could always just dyno the stuff, but as i say before, im a car iliterate, thats why i didnt even try to install that, but i got some bonus out of it!
Now, it does give a good IMPROVE to the car sound, way more agressive exhaust tone, little whistle in the engine compartment, its all good.
I truly recommend this CAI, but if u guys dont trust it, well, just go ahead and pay more for the same stuff.

Hi,
if anyone wants a CAI in Houston,
go to Z Motorsports in Spring, TX.
They know what they are doing and take 200
bucks and about 4 hours of your time for it...

You lucky son of a bitch :). Looks great. Carbon fiber looks very cool. I think I'll have to wait til next year though. Oh well, I'm sure it will be worth the wait to see which CAIs perform best! Good luck! :)

That's ahh heck of an cai injen intake that looks sweet. Nice pic razhael, how much does that monster flow and the injen cai increase in horsepower.
Razhael
10-03-2001, 03:56 PM
dunno how much they increase, and by the way, the CAI is MHP not injen, i dunno if anybody has the injen yet.

jay, its a k&n, the water bypass valve is AEM, and i dont know about the carbon fiber price yet, i was luckily upgraded!!!! good thing i let them install it for me. They will probably have it by next week (the site updated with the pics and prices for carbon fiber)

Holy crap that thing looks SWEET!! I was considering an MHP a month ago (approximately, when they first came out with it) but they didn't have anything that looked this good! Back then was just the metal pipe.
Are you sure this is real carbon fiber? I'm not doubting you, just wanted to make sure it wasn't some fake plastic tube or film covering or something. It takes quite a bit of work (investment?) to design and produce a carbon intake. What did you pay for it?
Here's a question for everyone: CAI or short ram? I'm in rainy Vancouver, and I do have a little bit of fear that the engine will suck water, or at least moisture once the rainy season starts. I know there's the AEM bypass valve, but that won't stop small amounts of water or humidity mixed with the intake air will it? Will that screw up the engine?

well, it looks and feel like carbon fiber, besides, its all about performance right?
anyway, about the water bypass valve, u dont really know, i guess thats the problem with living in northern areas.

In order for water to damage your engine, you would have to submerge the end of the pipe under water. Raindrops getting on the filter will not harm it. The KN filter has a layer of oil which also helps keep the water out.

Razhael and OpusX, thanks for the info about the water in the engine thing. I guess I'm not as scared about getting a CAI anymore...and I'm still drooling over that intake! Razhael you're right, it's all about power hehehe...I've been trying to decide whether to go Injen or MHP...as per my other post. :D

Hey Rahzel, did you get the chance to dyno yet. I'm very interested in hearing what differences there are. I spoke to the head engineer that worked on the MP3 at Racing Beat. From what he had told me, there wasn't a whole lot of "acceleration time difference". He didn't get the chance to get the car on a dyno though and that's why I'm interested in the results. I also got his take on using a short ram VS. a CAI. He definately has me leaning more toward the CAI. He was saying the short ram will work fine, but that he didn't like what readings he was getting from the ECU during testing. Apparently the problems were that the ECU was having a hard time adjusting the fuel properly and that the hot air from the engine bay was giving bad signals to the ECU. So I asked him if using and APEXi S-AFC while using either intake would help and to my suprise he was telling me that it was a great idea. So, I'm ordering the Carbon Fiber CAI an S-AFC and then I'm taking a trip to a dyno. Goodluck Rahzel, we all envy you.
Anyone want to try to organize a group buy on the Carbon Fiber CAI. Let's see if we can get them to lower the price to $300 even. Anyone interested I know I can organize a group buy on S-AFC's no prob. :D

Whenever you get the chance, just grab the yellow pages, look in the "auto" section, look for "auto performance" shops, then finally, look for a performance shop that has a does dyno test/tuning. Goodluck man, I have to remember you're not in Cali.

Sorry guys, I haven't read this post in a few days. A S-AFC brand new should cost $293 on groupbuycenter. I'm not sure how much I can get one for, but I can give the vendor I go to a call and see how many I'd need to get a discount on em. Email me if you're interested.
