Remaining ever vigilant in providing the most advanced safety equipment in its vehicles, Volvo is apparently upgrading its all-wheel drive system that is either standard equipment or optional on every vehicle it sells. The new system is designed to further reduce wheel spin with a system called Instant Traction that uses a non-return valve in the hydraulic control system to prevent the AWD system from being drained of pressure as the vehicle slows down to a stop. When starting from a standstill, 59 lb-ft of torque will be precharged in the system, which will help engage the rear wheels much faster than the previous system.
