View Full Version : My frustration with Mazda.....air bag warning light

I'm getting really frustrated with my car and although the dealer has been good about taking care of things in the past, I'm starting to get frustrated with them too. Here's the story:

About 4-5 months ago my air bag warning light starting coming on when I accelerate. Brought it in, they checked it and were stumped as to the cause (they checked all the connections and stuff). They called Mazda technical service and were told to replace the air bag control module, which was ordered and came in a week later...didn't work. Now they were told to replace a wiring harness going into the dash. Well that part was on backorder for about 3 months and finally came in two weeks ago. The dealer thought it was just one wiring harness but they were actually sent a bunch of wiring that goes into the dash. Brought the car in and all of it was installed...didn't work. They switched out the instrument cluster with one off a car in their used car lot...that didn't work either. Now I guess they've been talking to Mazda technical service to decide what to do next, although they haven't called me since Friday to let me know what's going on (although they said they would call me by the end of today and never did). In the past, the dealer (Borgman) has been very good about taking care of things, but this just has to stop....they just need to take care of this problem. They make it sound like they're just plain ignorant and that Mazda Technical Service (who has never seen the car) are the only ones who know what to do. Funny, I thought they had mechanics working in the shop?!

My main question is, how long is this going to go on? Has anyone else had seemingly unsolvable problems and how did the dealer resolve it? I'm not sure if they will continue to try to fix it or just say screw it and give me money back or a discount on a new 3s. Because the initial repair took place after I owned the car for over a year, I'm not eligible for the Lemon Law. Meanwhile, a Scion tC with ground effects and LED tail lights, or an Acura RSX Type-S is looking tempting...they 5-door Mazda3s isn't a bad looking car either. The only problem is I have about $2000 in repairs, upgrades, and accessories into my Protege (see my signature).

I wish I could help....Is your Car almost paid for in full?..if not and you put $2000 into mods and such, it's not worth it to get rid of your protege.

I owe like $6k on it still. I'm not necessarily talking about selling the car myself, but more the possibility of the dealer not being able to fix it. Plus, I have brand new OEM 16" wheels (I got them under warranty because the paint was bubbling on the old ones) and brand new 205/50R16 Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 tires....I bet I could sell those on this forum to get some money back.

Did they ever bother to check the front seat belt assemblies? They have a pretensioner and is connected to the whole airbag system. Perhaps one of them has failed.
