These spy photos, taken just recently, capture a prototype Jetta GLI parked between a 2006 Beetle and a standard 2006 Jetta.

The Jetta GLI continues VW's tradition of sporty models with more power, better handling, and special trim. Naturally the most important part of the GLI is its more powerful engine. Instead of the Jetta's 2.5 liter five-cylinder making 148 horsepower, the GLI will have a 2.0-liter turbo four cranking out 200 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, while a DSG transmission is optional. Putting this power to the road is a firmed-up suspension, plus 17-inch diameter alloy wheels wearing high-performance tires. The Jetta GLI also has its own individual styling touches including performance sport seats. The GLI grille has a honeycomb pattern instead of horizontal bars, and replaces the chrome prow of the standard Jetta with shiny black. All other chrome trim pieces on the Jetta's front end have also been deleted, with the exception of the fist-sized chrome VW emblem. Chrome trim around the side windows has been changed to black as well. And naturally, the GLI has VW's signature trim element for its sporty models, the thin red stripe around the lower edges of the grille opening.

this sucks, and whats up with the wheel gap?

On a somewhat unrelated note, is it true that all previous golfs/gettas had solid (dependent) rear suspention?

The new MKV Jetta/Golf FINALLY have Independant Rear Suspension. YAY!

That being said, whever the MKV Golf/GTI get here, it's on my short list of potential new cars.

I like it better than the standard version, but only because it doesn't have all the chrome...however, I still don't like it overall. The Germans are getting whacky with their designs.
