no the person before me was having the car repo'd so some of her friends decided to strip the car of everything they could that would not be noticed. so they took the struts, sway bars, spring and a few other items. so not only do i have to add performance mods to my car i also have to replace stock stuff too!

http://www.i-club.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1020826

gives a little more detail in the whole situation, and he also edited most his big post calling me ghetto and accusing me of saying that my car was supercharged.

Do you know if that guy still hangs out with Ghost and everybody from up there?

Performancecenter has a decent deal. Too bad the right rear is the one you need. The others are on clearance. I have personally bought all four of my Tokicos and my Eibachs from them. Good place to work with.

How much different are the Tokico HPs and Illuminas to the KYB GR2s? I have the GR2s sitting in my garage waiting to be put on. But I hear a lot of good things about the Tokico HPs and Illuminas. Are the Tokicos THAT much better than the KYBs?

ive asked this question so much that i know the answer now lol...the GR2s are cheaper than the others because they are not as good...most importantly, the GR2s are only a stock replacement, with the HPs you will have a much stiffer ride and reduced body roll when doing more "spirited" driving....the illuminas are adjustable, and if you have the money to get these, you might want to just look into coil overs (not to say that illuminas arent good--but if its adjustable ride you want, coil-overs are the way to go)... anyway, im upgrading my suspension from stock to s-techs with HP blues based on the advice ive gotten from many on this forum....

i have the hp blues w/ tien s tech springs on my mp5 and the ride is nice and tight. it is a bit harsh on crappy city streets but on the open road and in turns they really shine. oh and i also have the bigger mps rear sway as well.

Wow, very good jbird! Sounds like you know your stuff now. Since I already have the Eibach Pro-kit, I don't think I need the Illumina's to get the adjustability or "coilover feel".

If I do indeed go with the HPs, does anyone want to do me a favor and buy my GR2's? *Maybe maybe*

From where are you ordering the HPs from? Let me know what kind of price you end up paying.

i was gonna order them off of ebay (found them for 340+shipping) but i think im gonna try and get them from the vendor on this board, racing extreme i think his price is like $320+shipping..im slightly skeptical cuz hes a new vendor on the board but its much better price than ive seen anywhere else

It depends on what you want and the road conditions.

I needed the adjustibility to tune the car's cornering for track days.

Right now I have them set on the lowest stiffness b/c of the road conditions up here and that my springs are fairly stiff.

steve_protege

If I get them, I don't need em set to any particular setting. The car is used 99% daily driver and 1% for "spirited driving". I would be better off just buying the non-adjustables I guess? Most of the roads here in FL are in fairly good shape. Maybe a couple here and there are crap, but for the most part everything is okay.

jbiird317
08-05-2005, 10:18 AM
yeah i decided to go non-adjustable because this car is definatley daily driven, but rarely in the winter time, so the stiff setting would be what i would use almost all the time anyway, so why bother getting adjustables if its never gonna change? especially if youre in FL there would be no point in getting adjustables if youre not doing much track driving

well i got them installed yesterday and it is so tight now! it's great! but i have the progress springs and the tokico hp's and it's seem to be a great ride.

Alright. Thanks guys. I think I may be switching out my shocks/struts even before they were on the car! Crazy, huh? Now I just need to find someone to buy em. Maybe try and sell them here or on Ebay. Does anyone think the HPs could be on Ebay for cheaper? Of course Id prefer to buy here through Racing Extreme to help the other forum members and all, but just out of curiousity thats all. I'll check it out and let you all know.

I did some price comparisons on here and Ebay. Racing Extreme's offer is by far the best for the Tokico HPs and Illuminas. Even with the shipping price added to his GB prices, its still cheaper than the prices on Ebay with free shipping. Plus, we're all supporting one of our forum members. Im buying my set either end of this week or early next week.

yeah i did the same comparisons, in the end i went with Racing_extreme and his price with shipping was less than the ebay price without shipping...struts come wednesday and car gets lowered saturday...

Are you doing it yourself or taking the car somewhere to get it done? I need to find a place to get mine done if I don't have any help this weekend to put mine on.

im gonna do it myself i think...i have a friend thats gonna help me and im gonna rent a spring compressor from autozone...lucky for me tho my friend works for ingersol rand, so he has all kinds of air guns and really nice tools so that will make it a LOT easier...

if you need to go somewhere to have it done, i would go to a smaller garage that does private jobs, chain garages wont put on aftermarket parts unless you purchase them through their shop

What do you mean, "smaller garage?" How would I go about finding something like that?

well i found one actually by chance....i went to Monro mufflers for my inspection and i asked if they would help me install the new springs/struts and the guy said no, but he reccomended a bunch of places that would... when i pulled up to the place he reccomended it looked like more of a junkyard than a garage, but they did excellent work at a cheap labor cost... so i guess your best bet would be to ask around in your area, or just hit the yellow pages and look for privately owned garages

yea i had a shop here offer to do mine for $25 a strut, so a $100 in all isn't to bad.

So then it sounds like I can follow the same route as you (jbiird317) and visit a muffler shop and ask around there. Then maybe they can recommend me to a place where I can get mine done??

yeah that would work most likely, and if they say they can do it, definately ask around to see what kind of prices different places offer, a lot of the times the bigger places are just gonna try and rip you off if they do it at all
