I need some help, I have about 12 k on my car and it's running terrible. Lag is more than it used to be. It's not very responsive, this has been happening for a couple of days. When I try to accelerate it starts to skip alot compared to being smooth like before. Anyone know how to fix this?

Same thing is happening to my car, but I'm at 52k....people mostly said to clean the egr valve (there is a how-to) but that didn't work for me...changed the spark plugs, checked the fluids, disconnected the battery for a while....none of that worked for me, but who knows, it might work for you

other than that, take it somewhere to get it looked at? i don't know....no matter what i've done, it doesn't seem to alleviate the problem.

Just as a car dude.. Know Ford product I wouldnt recommend going to Jiffy Lube , they spary TBs and the TBs sometimes have protective coating its not smart, Unhooking a good pressure vac line to the in take and useing a small hose in a tube of injector cleaner works for me sometimes to get rid of build up . Be warned dont do this in your hood. There will be smoke coming out like mad and its a 2 person job, someone will have to rev the car. I would go to a autoparts store and look and read the cleaners there may be one that says its for this type of useage . Ohhh yea just in case have a fire ext. ready not a hose !!! (alright)

Try re-setting the ECU.
Check for exhaust leaks.
Try cleaning EGR valve.
Go as back to stock as possible and see if problem still occurs.
If so, take it to dealer and ask what's up.

well it went to the dealer yesterday for a tire balance and alignment since the driving wheel was shaking like crazy, I asked them also check the spark plugs to see if one of them burned out. I assume it's carbon buildup somewhere. Reason I didn't ask them to do more was because it wasn't a mazda dealer. It's a dodge dealer, and the owner is a real good friend of the families so he tries to help us out in any way possible (he also owns a mazda dealer, but it's about an hour away and with the car driving like that it didn't feel safe). Thank you for the suggestions

Can you please translate this for me? Ford has some ownership in Mazda but the 2.0L is not a Ford part that I know of. What is a TB and this protective coating? I've had the Jiffy Lube injector cleaning (yeah, it smokes like hell for a few minutes) at around 30K miles and now at 60K miles my car still runs factory new.

Ford owns and makes alot of mazda ford has been a partner for years and then took over! Ford puts a protective coating on some of the TB's made, not all some. Find this hard to belive talk to ford tecs!

So did the problem get resolved withthe dealer looking at the plugs? I would swap em out anyway, depending on how many miles. Only 5 or 6 bucks.

There is a fuel injector cleaner called Seafoam, that you spray directly into the intake. I am going to do this soon, as I hear it cleans everything out.

Ford owns 46% of Mazda, financially. Many of there products were similar to almost identical. An example were the Mazda MX-6 and the Ford Probe. Identical engines, transaxles, etc, both built in the Flat Rock, Michigan plant near Detroit. Both were junk.

The P5 is almost 100% Japanese, and a better car for it! I don't believe it shares much of anything with any current Ford models.
