sorry got too much time on my handsMZ3 and if you look at the URL for short somewhere in there they have MZ3, and the 6 is MZ6, miata is MX5 and so on so I would refer to it as a MZ3

It is just extra stuff that doesnt need to be said. That is why we say MSP. Because when telling someone the whole name...its a mouthfull.

not picking on you or anything (wait no i lied) its just like saying hey can you check the "VIN number" on that car. You dont say "VIN number" because that is what the "N" in "VIN" stands for, so if you do say "VIN number" then you are really saying "Vehicle Identification Number number".

Funny that we had the same problem with p5 owners calling their cars "mp5s". The "mp" in mp3 is short for mazda protege, its actually a collaberation of the cars stereo, the previous 323 and the mazda protege.

And the mazda 3 is just that. You never saw mp3 owners dropping the "p" to call their car's "m3's".

I talked to some reps that said the mp3 came from the audio system originally but also that it played into the mazda and protege names. The intial name was from the audio, but was put in stone with the correspondence to the mazda protege name.
