View Full Version : Slotted/Cross drilled rotor noise

I put on my slotted and cross drilled rotors a few months ago as well as new front pads, leaving the stock rear pads but replacing the rotors. lately when I stop at anything but low speeds the brakes make a noise like a clicking. the brakes don't feel strange at all and stopping seems like it is where it should be, so everything could be just fine. I would think if it was something rubbing I would be able to feel it in the pedal. I've never had slotted/cross drilled rotors before, so this noise could be totally normal. it also doesn't make the noise at slow speed braking. I was thinking that it was the surface of the rotor making the noise, seeing that it has holes in it, but i really don't know. is this noise normal or not?

haven't had any noise except when I first installed the m. I have both front and rear rotors and pads from street unit have had them on for a few months. they are great, no noise very little dust. good luck with whatever it turns out to be and keep us updated.

i get a noise, i have the S/CD rotors from rotorworks. im pretty sure its the rotor surface, it doesnt affect braking advesely, so im pretty sure its just the slots

I had the same problem and i took it in to have some tires put on and they told me that the brakes were on backwards. I'm gonna check them out this weekend.

i have had mine for quite some time and they always made that clicking noise. I was told it was the slotted part passing over the pad. But what do I know..haha. Kidding, my brakes work awesome, although I am getting a little noise now (eeeeeeeeee).

Left rotor installed on right side...one of mine came labeled, so i got the direction right :)
i think i just need an exhaust so i dont hear the noise...

Oh, he said brakes so i assumed he meant pads and not the rotors. Gotcha, i should probably check that. i know on stoptech's website (maybe not stoptech..i cant find it...mustabeen somwhere else) it shows the correct orientation, now that i think about it, i never thought it made a difference when i put them on...hmmm...

The clicking is from the slots. I'm gathering that its from the rear since there are points that the caliper aren't on a slot while the car is in motion.

Ive had mine on for a while and I dont get any noise. I was told when you put them on the slot goes a certin way. I went to Brembos web site and go the info. Here a pic just in case.

Yea its not that great of a pic. You should be able to open the pic to full screen and then put the curser on the bottom right corner and it'll let you inlarge it. But incase you still can't, Brembo said that the Out side slot should hit the pad first, this acts as a shaver on the pads. The holes are for heat and letting the break dust out.

When I was checking witch way to put mine on I heard the same thing. I had one guy tell me that I had them on backwards, thats why I checked with Brembo. But I think defferant manufatures have there own ideas of how to install them. So I really don't know what to tell you except try it.
