Well, the 1.8L did have the lowest production run of ANY of the 3rd gen engines....Plus most 2.0L parts are interchangeable...this whole section screams redundancy.

do 1.8's have boost happy rods like the 1.6?

they are shorter however which makes them inherently stronger than a 2.0

yeah ive got the 1.8L in my 2000 ES...

Im actually in the market for an intake...someone's selling an AEM sri from a 2.0L P5, if I did my homework right, this should fit in my engine as well, right?

Yes. I have no idea which model i have, but it has a 1.8.

I dunno, maybe its because we're in different parts of the world, but when it comes to car and model choice, Australia sucks balls.

I welcome anyone who can tell me what the fuck it is that i drive exactly.

BTW, dont get me wrong. I love the car. I just dont know which protege it is lol.

Hey i got a 1.8L automatic transmission in my 2000 ES. Do any of yall know it a 2.0L 5spd transmission will fit my 1.8L engine? I know yall say parts are interchangeable so it should. Right? I wanna get rid of my automatic transmission.

ive got the 2.0 5spd's intake on my 2000ES auto and its def NOT a perfect fit, it may fit, but it will definately take a little inginuety on your part...as you know, our transmission is HUGE compared to the 1.6L and 2.0L manual, so if you can get it to match up i would bet it would work, but bolting it down may pose a problem

that's a big no...the 1.8L used the f series transmission, the 2.0L used the g series

huh? i thought they only made the 1.8L in 1999? runs good in 5-speed besides that recall they had to do way back when...

Does that mean that the 1.8L auto is a lil stronger then the 2.0L auto? Can it handle more hp?

Shane5425

That the shit i wanna do. So JCperformance you didnt have any problems swappin trannys? I am sick of my automatic. i need to up grade to at least manual so i can do more to my engine without having to worry about messin it up. How much you pay for your tranny? Swap it yourself?

how much does it cost to do an auto-manual swap on a 00' 1.8L ES?? cause its a tranny, clutch, flywheel, linkage, shifter, its alot of stuff...can i get a few rough estimates with moderate parts and professional installation

I do agree, the tranny is weak on the 1.8. Ive been through 3, First one was beat on, Previous owner beat it a little bit, I beat it like my friends do with their hondas and what do you know, one day i go try leave my school parking lot, and rrrrgggrrrfkckc rrrrrgekkcck is all i hear, right in front of the damn school, lol. 2nd tranny i did nothing to it for it to break, and shit still eventually just broke, and this one, knock on wood, lol the tranny in my car now is from a 00, the 2 others were from a 99, IM never getting another car on the first year of production again.

well i did it myself and its not that bad. Id say it cost around 500$ including short shifter act clutch and pressure plate. Getting the tranny from a local junk yard for about 110$. The only two problems i have had so far is spindles the axles are bigger in diameter so i put in spinldes from 626 but my camber is to positive. Mind you i just did the swap a month ago. It drives fine but ill wear through my tires. I will going to my boys shop this weekend to see if the hubs from the 626 spindle will press into my old spindles if not i'll have to buy some from a P5. Which im tring to avoid. And the other thing is i didnt swap the harness or ECU so my speedo doesnt work and my O/D light flashes, but thats just wiring so if i cant figure it out ill be swap those to. If any one is serious about doing this let me know cause theres alot of little things that you will need to get. I can give you a pretty detailed list.
