Floor mats

I just bought myself a 2005 Mazda 3 GT and I love it, except for the carpet floor mats that came with the car. I hate them so I'm planning to put in different ones.
But there's a little plastic hook that attaches to the driver's side floor mat to keep it from moving around.
How do I remove this hook without breaking it and without ripping the fabric on the floor?

id leave it and cut a hole in your new floor mats so you can use it thats what i did with my rubber mats.

Just buy the Mazda rubber mats that have the hole in them.
If you don't want to, then I would definitely cut a hole in the new mats before I clipped the hook off the carpet.

this is what the clip looks like.. so now you know how to pry it open with a screwdriver.. it's a little of a biotch but it can be done.. u might sacrifice the clip in the end. just be careful when tugging on it so you don't rip the carpet (that's all it's really held onto)

or even worse, slide over the pedals.

i used all weather mats from canadian tire (i have pix if you (canada) want to see - $15cad A PAIR, they do the trick especially for summer only) and they have not once slipped under/over. if you're worried about it use some industrial strength velcro and the carpets will stick (that's what i did for my rears since they slide too much)

cutting a hole may not be the best idea; if it rains, the water will seep through and stay under the mat until you dry it out.. just my $0.02CAD

(rofl)!!!!!! thats hilarious. I like the idea for the velcro in the back, my rubber mats are always ending up under the front seats. Does the velcro kinda mess up the carpet on the mats though?

:D haven't had too many people in the back recently but it prevents them from slipping and sliding. if you don't peel it off often then your carpet should be ok (i guess when you wash the car) .. YMMV

my fronts don't slide at all..

my front driver slides a little, I think it just moves very slightly everytime i push the clutch. Its not enough to worry, I may try the velcro in the back. thanks for that idea

well, i decided to leave that clip-thing attached and i'm not going to cut a hole in the new mats - majic is right about the water seepage.

the mats i bought are really flexible so they cover the clip quite nicely...
