Way over priced. Price of platinum as of 13:12 EST today was $880 USD per ounce troy. 2.67 lb = 42.72 troy oz.
Platinum in knob (if pure) costs $37,693.60 USD. How much could it have cost to make it, $37,000 ?

Heh ... well I'm sure they don't actually make the thing until someone buys it. Even if it only costs them $37k to make it, that's still a lot of money.
Anyway, looking at the auction, it looks like they ship it for free ... so that makes it a sweet deal, right?

if it is real, don't count on it looking shiny and new for too long. my wedding band is platinum and it now looks like ass. i've only had it a year, and i don't go banging into things, but within a day of wearing it, i already scratched it.

it ain't so blingy anymore. it's got a nice dull finish to it. i'd go for the titanium, but i like the weight of the plat. it's nice and farking heavy.

I find it hard to take this seriously, you'd have to be insane to spend 75k on something like that.

I actually got a stainless steel band, I was kinda ify about it at first, but it's not bad and I can shine it up with little effort.

that knob is still not heavy enough, when will they release one made of depleted uranium?
Edit: Doh, looks like plainum is still more dense. Apparently Iridium would be moreso though.

titanium knobs are light but come on....jsut make the bloody thing out of carbide. it never scratches, has a molecular weight close to platinum and i doubt it would run you 75 grand.....on a side note can you imagine your insurance claim when someone steals your p5 and you are listing the value of the contents? cds - $350, stereo $1,000 pure platinum shift knob $75,000.....

The bidder has been a member since 1999 but has never bought anything, or at least never recieved any type of feedback. Very sketchy to me that a 6 year member's first purchase is a $75,000 piece of shaped metal...
And two days ago when I check the auction page, that guy had not bid, and the auction was closed. So unless I'm just on crack, something not right. And I'm not on crack.
