I want to start making some mods to the MazdaSpeed that I will be getting next Monday. Can anyone tell me what the best exhaust setup would be from the cat converter back to the muffler?
I found a MAGNAFLOW CONVERTER HIGH FLOW ROUND 2-1/2" free flowing cat, is anyone using this? If so what muffler are you using in conjunction with it?
I don't like anything loud, ricey, etc. Inside or outside the cabin. I also don't want to hear back fires. What are your thoughts? GREDDY? FLOWMASTER?
Also I don't want cabin rattle or disturb my neighbors. But I do want a free flowing cat with a free flowing muffler to increase the HP! Not sure if I can get 10HP out of this or not.
Please help a fellow out! I have searched these forums and half of the links don't even work for the exhaust sounds and setups.
Let me know what you have for a setup and please post a sound clip or let me know how loud it is. I appreciate your help fellow MazdaSpeeders

best combo IMO is:
MAM midpipe w/ cat - http://*******************************/cart/product_info.php?cPath=23_116&products_id=201
Greddy SP2 catback - http://www.***************/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=10147010&Category_Code=MSP_EXH
great power and a throaty tone.

I have a Corksport exhaust, no cats and stock muffler. Not loud but it is more aggressive than stock and no cabin noise compared to the CS muffler that came with exhaust. I love it and you do notice a difference.

Are these both easy to install? And what do you expect the HP gain to be? Do you have a sound clip? I appreciate the help my brother!

I'm seeing folks mentioning that this may be loud with the midpipe. Can you upload a sound clip? I would owe you huge!!! Anyone else have any suggestions?

Does anyone have a Vibrant and recommend that? 22HP gain? Is that real loud in the cabin or can you deal with it? trips, etc?

for the greddy .. post #1, car #10
also check out car's 24 and 25.
this combination shouldn't be hard to install, seeing as they are direct replacements. it would help to have a few buddies with you during the install, but all in all a relatively straightforward job.

Install is pretty straight forward with any exhaust for our cars. The only bitch is getting some of the bolts loose.

i just put on the greddy sp2 on sunday and i love it. i get some rattle between the pipe and the shield on the gas tank. i think i just need to shift stuff a little tho. i don't have a mid-pipe yet but am planning on getting the mam SS catted. i love the sound tho. it's no louder than stock, just a little deeper and more defined. it sounds really good when i get on it. great exhaust, a little pricey but great quality.

I have the Vibrant and am located in MN also. What part of MN are you in, you could hear mine if you want. I love it.

I'm in Rochester, MN! Do you have a cat or catless and do you have the mid pipe replaced? Let me know! Where are you located?

I'm in the St. Paul area.
The vibrant exhaust replaces everything from the S pipe back. I don't know if it will work for you unless you have the same turbo set up as the MSP....unless the MP3 exhaust starts with a J like the MSP...(huh)
I have a high flow cat in mine. It is loud though, you would distrub your neighbors and you will also get some backfire. Not ricey loud though, sounds pretty deep.

I'm really looking for just HP gain without all the noise! I can appreciate other cars with the noise but I'm not really into it with daily driving. I might have a High FLow Cat put on then custom piping that goes straight back and purchase a muffler. Now what muffler???? I"m sure it will get alot louder with less bends in the pipes.

I'll throw out my opinion. I have the GHL dp, and replaced the stock resonator with a flexpipe and retained the stock muffler. It is loud by no means inside the car. Rev it and you can definately hear it. Even thought there is a cat I still have backfires when tapping the throttle. Demonic-Speed heard it the other night briefly, don't know what he thought though.
I love it:)

that seems like a good combo.... i assume it is all 2.5" diameter?
does anybody have this combo with the MAM downpipe from the turbo?

I have heard the MAM downpipe rattles even with the hangers you get. I'm not sure I want to deal with that! Look on the forums about that.

Does anyone have any idea if replacing the stock MSP muffler (made by racing beat I assume) with GREDDY will increase performance? Or is the stock muffler restrictive? Do you think you can get 8-10 HP out a Greddy cat back or would that be a myth with the Mazdaspeed?
warrier04

don't expect 8-10 hp out of a catback on the msp. the stock exhaust is restrictive, but not that bad.
the big gains will come when you replace the 2 factory cats with either a high flow cat or not cat at all.
the best bang for the buck is the corksport catless downpipe-back exhaust: www.corksport.com (http://www.corksport.com)
i think the best sounding exhaust is either MAM or Apex midpipe with the greddy catback. (2.5" should suffice, but i can't say i know where you wanna go with the car)
expect significant gains from either of those setups.

Can the CorkSport 'Power Series' S Downpipe be installed on the stock exhaust system? If so will there be any horsepower gains?
warrier04

what do you mean install on the stock exhaust? the corksport exhaust replaces the stock exhaust. and yes, that exhaust yielded a significant gain in power. search around and you'll probably find a dyno or something.

I mean, its not a full exhaust system, its just the s pipe. Do i need to add a full cat back, and muffer to get the full benefit?

I believe the cork sport down pipe is the s pipe and a short pipe that bolts to the cats their exhaust replaces the cats all the way out the back. With both pieces it becomes a true turbo back exhaust.

People have said the corksport is louder than the Vibrant. Do you get any droning? How is cabin noise?
