since i have an extra motor out of the mp3 and i read daily of people that actually race there msp's blowing stuff up i decided to build the mp3 motor up to eventually drop in the msp. So far im looking at the basics..

-disassemble block, hone it out. (shouldnt need to be bored any since the motor ran smoothly all its life even though it has approx 76k on it.)
-have the crank balanced and reconditioned
-forged rods and pistons not sure yet if im going to drop the CR, prolly leave it at 9.1:1)
-new bearings and seals
-upgraded oil pump
-baffled oil pan
-good headgasket (havent really done any research on these yet)
-arp bolt kit

the head will be worked over before the motor is ever started on

-3 angle valve job
-deshrouded valves
-ferrea valves
-eibach valve spring kit
-sr motorsports cam gears
-crower custom camshafts
-port and polish
-port match to the intake mani

if anyone sees anything im missing please do tell.

Not for certain on this, but with the forged pistons you may need to have the cylinders bored slightly. Forged pistons are denser and expand enough when hot to need a few thousandths wall clearance. My experience is with monster Pontiac V-8's, so it may or may not apply with our little engines.

I'm not sure about these engines, but I know that people get them bored to match each piston, too.

i meant mostly the engine wouldnt have to be bore to any kind of extreme such as you'd do with say a small block chevy. i wouldnt need to bore it so far as to need oversized pistons.

Read my thread "A Rebuild Story: Forged MP3" as I spell out everything I did to build the motor i haven ow.

It is best to overbore the cylinders by 10 thou so you can have it precision matched with the hone so that your clearances are perfect... a straight hone and drop in of the pistons may lead to too much clearance... or not enough depending on what the factory did or didn't do on your block.
