Hi all.
i'm relatively new to this forum, and have just acquired myself a 1999 mazda protege SE 5spd. I was wondering if anyone had any tips or suggestions to upgrade the acceleration of my car? Nothing too ridiculously expensive, but any input would be much appreciated! (Keep in mind i know very little about upgrading :x )

I think you mean ES. I would start by adding a CAI, and perhaps a header and an exhaust system. Those are always the easiest to install yourself and add power without making you go broke. Pm me if you need anything Ill try my best to help.

sorry, but for the 1.6, only way to get any real power is to go turbo. contact Juan at Hi-boost. Those engines love boost

that's unfortunate. I'm guessing doing the exhaust and adding a cold air intake would probably add little to nothing eh.

^ been there done that. only thing I noticed was a sound difference and 400 dollars broker. Turbo it if you're serious about acceleration.

i have an exhaust and intake on mine .... its not faster at all .... but it sounds cool heh.

so just like witchdoktor said its all about the boost.

but on the plus side our engines handle boost like a champ :).

unless u want a noise maker, fi is the only power gain for the 1.6..
