I need someone - anyone - to tell me where to buy a mass air flow meter. Dealership is too expensive - $449 ... performance is hesitating big time. Losing power in all gears - hesitation and almost stalling occurs.

I have a 2000 LX - check engine light is on - paid for 2 engine analysis - said it was the 02 sensor - bought 2 o2 sensors and that did not solve my problem. I have been all over the internet and I cannot find a thing regarding a 2000. Send emails to jnivert@sbcglobal.net or post replies. Looking for something cheaper than $300.

1st, you should buy OBDII reader (its the tool that you hook up to the OBDII port under the dash and check the codes that CEL throws) there are few models out there and they cost from 100 to 200 bucks. You can get it at any automotive store. OR you can go to Autozone and they run the CEL check for free. As far as MAF reader....beats me dude. Are you stock or not? Check for vacuum leaks on the intake (if you have aftermarket) check the vacuum hoses.

Also, how bad is the hesitation? Does it happen through out the whole rpm range? or only at certain rpm?

Sorry DiS - I should have provided more info. It's a stock MAF ... went to AutoZone, the error code reports it's running TOO LEAN. Received CEL check over 10 times - clearing the error because of the stupid E-check and/or after replacing O2 sensors. Already checked for leak - none could be found, no air bubbles.

No aftermarket parts installed and hesitation is all over the place and happens in 1 - 5 gear.

You should PM Edwin "The Man" He will tell you what other models use that same MAF. Your best bet would be to get a used one from a salvage yard.

You should be sure that the air temperature gauge is still functioning correctly. I got all kinds of hesitation and supttering right after insatlling my CAI at 2am one night when I neglected to put the temp sensor on. It plugs into the stock airbox but I plugged it into my wheel well by my air filter. It's supposed to read the temp air that is coming into your engine so I figured it was better there than in the engine bay itself as it would read inccurately hot.

You should be able to get that part from a junkyard easily.

it's the wire that branches from the MAF. you can't actually see the temp gauge in this pic, but if there isn't anything plugged into the end of that wire coming off your MAF you need one for sure. and if there is one there it may be broken.

pic of where it plugs in (used the rubber plug that was in the stock airbox and drilled out an existing hole next to the spot to drop the filter in.

It was the MASS AIR FLOW METER. After spending $350 on two engine analysis' + 2 O2 Sensors (which did not help) - I bought a $45 (+ $10 shipping) used Mass Air Flow Meter to solve the problem.

After putting in the MAF - my power was restored. No more puttering/loss of power/feeling like not enough gas is going through ...

Thanks all for helping out ...
