Agreed, DO IT! Previous 99/00 owner here and loving the MS3! I'm just now getting used to driving conservatively and not using the turbo. I have a lead foot and the fuel consumption was kicking my ass at first. The fuel consumption is like night and day between the two.

I do too, I'm not happy with the way it fits. I bought the flange used from another member, but it looks just like the ATP's.

what i did was I was i lined it up horizontally and then tighten the recirculation hose, that help the bov stay in place.

ahh sounds like you've had a good experience, thats good. A LOT of people I know just went to trade in, and took whatever offer they dealer gave them. It amazes me how some people don't care that they're being ripped off 5K or so. lol Must be nice to have money like that I always think. Well, like all of us 99-00 owners, the 3, or MS3 is a perfect match for us. I feel as if the 3 has everything the protege lacked. especially the MS3. From owning my protege, and from reading, I see the trannies in them suck, whereas the mazda 3 tranny is built very well and is very strong, from what I have seen and heard. I have a friend with an 05 mazda3 S, and has driven like an asshole most of the time he had it, and raced, dumped clutch, etc, and the thing still drives perfectly.

I didn't use a break in period. I drove it hard some days right when I first got it and when I got tired of going to the gas pump every 3-4 days, I started driving conservatively. Not sure if that's a bad thing or not but I don't have any problems as of yet. Only 6mo old and have 12K miles on it already.

NegatiZE is the only one on the forum who did the WHOLE interior. From dash to auto hvac controls, to minor plastic pieces throughout the entire interior. He even did the 1.6 to 2.0 swap. Alot of time, effort, and money.

He did a write up on the interior swap and posted it here (http://www.panhandlegearheads.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6199). You'll have to become a member to view it. I would recommend you do it so you can always go back there for reference.

I'm did everything except the auto hvac, which was more involved than I was willing to do. I even swapped in MSP seats and steering wheel. Now all I need to be complete is black carpet and floor mats, done.

I bought that exact same cd player. I didn't like the stock player and I used to have an aftermarker player but it fried. The player has been sitting in storage for a while now because I haven't had the motivation to go dig it out lol, so my Protege has been sitting for months with no radio. It doesn't bother me much because it doesn't get driven since buying my MS3. I guess I'll have to install it sometime soon because I'll be giving my brother the Protege.

The reason for me buying that player is I assumed it would fit. Whether you have a Protege, MP3, MSP, or P5, they're all generally the same car so the player should fit and work with no problem. The connectors might be different, but it's nothing to switch them out with the correct ones.

There's a few people out there that bought them when they first came out. VIS made them and came in evo and oem styles. The oem is the most rare and like he said, they're so rare you can probably count the ones left in the US on one hand.

I wanted one real bad when I still had my Protege. They make the oem style in Taiwan like it's nothing. It costs $700 + shipping to get one though.

Hi, I’m trying to find a way to put a ’00-’03 gauge cluster in a ’99 protégé
but I need some help figuring it out.

I posted this in electronics, but I figure it might be faster if I reach out to more 3rd gen owners.

I would appreciate if anyone who owns a 2000-2003 protégé would check their gauge cluster wire harness and write down which pins are connected and what color wires are connected to them.

I did it for the ’99 Mazda Protégé LX, so now I have to figure out what the difference is for ’00-’03. Everything seams to work between these two different clusters except for temperature gauge and tachometer. Since gauge faces are pretty much interchangeable, the only difference must be the pinout on the wire harness.

Well I have a 00 LX and i have power door lock, windows, and cruise well did have cruise until I just took it out. The DX i believe doesnt have the arm rest on the center console from other pics i have seen. same engine, same suspension, same body same interior besides maybe some minor things, but overall no differences just luxuries and i believe some DX models came with the power windows and door locks too

Nice. so mine is a LX. lol you dunno how much i've been having problems with this, wen my bro inlaw got the car it didnt have any emblems, so wen i wanted to get rotors, i wus like wtf .. i dunno wat i told him Lx/or Dx... or even Es? so i drove back home like 30 min distance.. got the wheel off.. to find out they were bigger.... How did you replaced the 2 gas temp gauge and the Rpm/s did you had to weld it? i had to replace my rpm gauge. sauterd it, but didnt work, and it was working prior to taht. lol. does anyone know wat can the problem b?.. am sure i got the weld deep in the hole so its touching.

you have to replace the whole gauge cluster. On a '99, you can only replace it with a '99.
What I did was I found a '99 LX gauge cluster with very similar miles to mine (a little higher) and took it's circuit board.
Then I bough a '00 ES gauges cluster and put the LX circuit board in it. The only tools needed are a screw driver and pliars.
Then I just drove till my original DX cluster read the same miles as the modified ES cluster, pulled off to the side of the road, and replaced them.
This wasy everything works and miles match perfectly :D

My 1999 Black Mazda Protege.
1.6L Engine prettyy stock. I only got an aftermarket exhaust and OBX full racing filter.
Sound system i got a Subwoofer: Kicker 15" Solo Baric L7 2000 watt and Amp: Hifonics Titan TXi 1508D 1500-watt Mono block.
And Crunch 4 channel 1600 watt. And to back that up, a nice Optima Deep Cell battery.

you have to replace the whole gauge cluster. On a '99, you can only replace it with a '99.
What I did was I found a '99 LX gauge cluster with very similar miles to mine (a little higher) and took it's circuit board.
Then I bough a '00 ES gauges cluster and put the LX circuit board in it. The only tools needed are a screw driver and pliars.
Then I just drove till my original DX cluster read the same miles as the modified ES cluster, pulled off to the side of the road, and replaced them.
This wasy everything works and miles match perfectly :D

Had the exact same idea but my cluster had less kilometers than mine, so that would mean I had to virtually drive backwards (cryhard)

Fortunately there was a guy just down the block who could put the new mileage on it for cheap.
Now I have a tach, white original facings from a 1.8 GT pre-facelift, facelift bezel and red backlighting. Significantly improves the look.

I think you're tripping. But i do see where you might have thought there's some molding going on. I see a color difference at the bottom. Repair work maybe? And the pic is definitely too big. You quoting the pic didn't help either, lol.

Its actually a highly modified Sport20 bumper. Not sure if you can get them anymore but Corksport.com is where I got mine for my 2000 Protege (in my sig)

After wrecking the P5, I had little cash and no insurance money. I found this 2000 LX on craigslist, listed at a local dealer for $1995. I bought it for $1650 and here is a picture from that night after buying it.
