Its pretty much been done. Someone used an Accord lip instead. Looks good and wasn't too hard to modify.

Well guys......just finished installing the 01-03 Mazda front air dam on my 1999 Protege. Install was fairly easy even for me. The fit is not perfect and there is some gaps, but overall I am very happy with the look. My lip kit is now finally complete. Once my 18's and my fogs come in, my exterior will FINALLY be finished.

I'll post up some pics of the new front lip tomorrow when I can find our camera.

I don't think the guy that makes them is on here. If I remember correctly, he's on a another Protege forum from Quebec. Do a search for the bumper on this site and you'll find the thread somewhere on here that has the link to the original post on that site.

I'm just too lazy to look for it right now, sorry. Ask 3TnT or protege_lx99, I'm sure they could point you in the right direction.

I just dont like that bumper cover. Right away, if you have a trained eye to see a protege it looks like a knockoff of the p5/msp bumper rather than a replica. they could a have done a better job and made it look like 3tnt's bumper

The rear lip, a drop, and some new rims are all part of my future plans but when you are an unemployed full time engineering student...you kind of need to do things in stages.

..although I did overhear my gf talking to my cousin about buying me my rear lip for x-mas if I'm good (nana)

Just realized that I haven't updated this thread with some new pics of my car. Installed the Mazda Protege 01-03 front air dam, and also picked up some 18" rims and sold the old 17" ones. Still got fog lights, and MSP sub enclosure to install. Also want to get my power window switches hooked up. But anywho...here are the pics:

Corners and Headlights are from Ebay. Front Lip is from DG Motorsports for the 01 and up, I just have a good bodyshop guy who put it on my stock 99 bumper. My car is meant for low and slow, thats why I got the chrome accents. Thanx for the advice tho :D

If you just want to see what it looks like, just go to a place that does graphics and buy a little piece of the material, cut and put it on.

I'm going to my local dealer in March to see if I can get me a 2008 MS3, if I get it then the Protege will sit and get neglected. So was thinking of taking back to stock form and parting it out and selling it. I'll definitely know by March and I don't see why I won't be able to find some good financing deals.

I'm not accepting any dibs but everything will go cheap or at a reasonable price. I'll keep you all posted.

Thanks! Yeah I had to modify the front lip to get it to fit like that. It involved cutting it shorter at the ends then using urethane adhesive to glue the end pieces back on. BTW black is a pain in the ass. lol Every bit of dust/dirt and every scratch/swirl shows very easily.

how did you make the air dam flush with the splash wall? Is all the excess on the other splash wall or is it flush on both sides?

The black headlights were a DIY job. The black corners were from eBay. red99pro is correct - the stock 15" rims were powder coated gloss black.

The ES models of the 99-00 Protege's were 15" in order to fit the larger brakes over the LX/DX models... I really like them powdercoated too... I might do mine in gunmetal. (2thumbs)

Right now I have my stock alloys covered in winter rubber (which I need to get on soon since State College is already getting snow), but might switch to R-Compound AutoX tires for next summer since this is the last season on the Michelins.

I love Proteges, and that is the first time Ive seen another Protege with those head/corner lights. Well at least im the only one with them in central florida with them. hoping to get some HIDs soon to make them look better. ill post some pics soon but mine isnt as clean as ur, rearended a jeep with a tow hitch so the hood and bumper are black (sad2)

thanks fellas, in the UK we dont need to have the corner lights on when the car is on. Its the P5 front bumper i think (its the facelift sport here in the UK) that i had custom made to fit the car, i saw what others have done and i copied. the HID's are 8000K, the fog lights aint wired up yet, but they are just filament at the moment. its a 1.5, im planning on doing something to the engine this summer! Thanks for all the positive responses!

And if was to get the sport20 bumper i would have to get it imported! which would have been long and expensive!

nah its just a couple of screws. Some of them are hard to get to, but you can do it with an offset screwdriver

The hard part is getting the paintable strip off the grill. I broke two clips on the brand new grill I bought getting it off :(

yeah, the DX stickers and the pinstriping will come off as soon as the weather gets nicer.

Need any lowering springs (yes you do ;))? I have a set of MP3 springs with about 30k miles on them that need a good home for say $50 + shipping? Let me know...
