yeah the darker color does hide a lot of stuff, but the car looks awsome man, great work.

2 things though, the tails should be changed, or night shade or tint the silver stuff, leaving the circles red. and second, get the clear corners or night shade them like mine.

good work!!

OK OK ALL!! I HEAR YA! (hear ya) I WILL BUY DARKED OUT TAILIGHTS AND CORNERS, GEESH!!! (Just Jokin)

But in all seriousness, I think I may have mentioned this in a previous post (maybe?) my regular tails were sent to Rock Blocker to get blacked out. Same goes for my clear corners. Depending on how they look, I'll send my headlamps as well. Thats why I have my altezzas on the car. For the sake of taking pictures for you all, I put the old lights back on and took some quick photos of the car. Both (the tails and corners) will be off as soon as I get the blacked out lens back.

About the color, I didn't want to get a light car because then it shows EVERYTHING! Plus when the car is washed and waxed, it just looks so damn Pretty! That Emerald Green Mica flake in the paint gets me all the time!! Maybe if I get my Cybershot digi cam and take some pics you all will be able to see the car better? Only reason I had the pics on a regular camera was because I wasn't going to leave a 200.00 - 300.00 digi camera with a bunch of wrench heads and have them break/lose/mishandle/pawn it. I'll try to get some better pics when I wash the car and hopefully get my tails back. Im also going to put on my LED kit today and possibly switch out my old OEM rotors for my new Power Slot slotted rotors!! I want to get some other things done before this meet on Saturday. If not, it will be the day after since Im off work.

damn steve..that car looks familiar...I wonder why....

I wanted to ask ya, what fog lamps are in your bumper? I wanted to put my set in (7 color LED lamps), but my bracket was too small. Would you know perhaps where I could find a place to fab me a bigger bracket for the bumper to mount my fogs?

Steve, I would suggest you go with P5/MP3/MSP fogs. They are a direct bolt-on, kinda expensive, but you won't have to worry about rigging something up just to make them fit or worrying about disfiguring that EXPENSIVE, HARD TO COME BY, ONE OF A KIND, ONLY CAN GET AT CORKSPORT, JDM bumper. Plus you're screwed if your rig falls out all over the road.

Reason I say go with a set of these fogs is for the mounting bracket. If you want to get different fogs later(which I did) you can do that. But you need that mounting bracket. I can't remember how much I paid for my set from Mazdastuff. I think it was a little over $250, but you can get them used from MazMart for around $110-$150. I don't know if you want to pay that much for fogs, but to me it's worth it, IMO.

You might want to see if you can just get the mounting bracket.

Hey P2K, I noticed in your sig you are shopping for a FD. Check out www.southeastsupercars.com, it is a guy here from Knoxville that works selling RX7's, 300zx's, and the occasional other import "tuner" car. If you are serious about buying one then it would be a good idea to talk to him and find out what he can do for you. He is about the most straight-forward guy you will ever meet and he definately won't sell you anything he wouldn't drive himself. He does personally drive all these cars for a little while before selling them.

No, MazMart is a company based in Atlanta, GA and they have more used Mazdas than you know what to do with. It's a wharehouse full of used and new parts. One of the guys took me to the back to look for a part I was searching for and we walk right through the main part of the wharehouse and I stopped and looked around and I was literally in shock. Shelves three stories high of parts, no exageration. Anything you need, they have for the low low. Call them, then call Mazdastuff, then your local dealer and compare the prices. I guarantee MazMart will beat them both.

Sold the rims so, i'm back to stocks. and fixed my front bumper and took off the fog after they were broken when i rear ended a civic which wasn't my fault. the bumper still has a dent or dimple in it in the middle, but its better then before . before and after :'(

Its me who is looking for the black housing corners. But Im still waiting to get my regular clear corners back from RockBlocker. He was supposed to smoke em out for me and send em back. But I have yet to hear back from him about a tracking number.

Quick question for everyone: RockBlocker is only making overlays for the corners, not smoking em out. He only had to borrow my corner lamp to make a template for it to make the overlay. Should I buy the black housing headlamps and corner lamps and have them smoked to match the tailights I have done or just smoke the stock headlamps and clear corners I have?

Yeah i like those the best too, i got the wheels with tires from an integra own for dirt cheap.

is there any downsides of not having a reinforcement bar? I know that bar saved my bumper when i rear-ended a civic, just put a dent in the middle of bumper and bar. I just pushed the dent out of the bumper.

Nah. Im waiting to see how the overlays look on my clear corners I sent away to get blacked out. But I don't know what would look better:

1) Blacked out OEM clear corners and headlamps

2) Black housing corners and headlamps w/o overlays

3) Combo of black housing corners and headlamps w/overlays

Kinda at a fork in the road here.......? Recommendation?

A combination of Emerald Green Mica and Black Mica flake. I was thinking of painting the housing black, but IM not sure whether I should do that by itself or smoke the lens as well. Then wouldn't it defeat the purpose of having the housing black?

nautical2086
08-14-2005, 12:01 AM
that would defeat the purpose, i think painting the housing looks a bit better than tinting the whole thing, and also I think the dark housing looks best on light cars like silver, white, yellow, and blue, If i had a dark green or black car, id have the headlights as clear as possible, thats just me.

Yeah, having the headlamps tinted charcoal (or smoked) would totally defeat the purpose of having the black housing. You wouldn't be able to see it. Plus its a lot of extra work to buy all the supplies and paint them all (corner lights included) then turn around just to cover them all up with a tint job. Im thinking I may just go with the tint job. Thanks Nautical.

good stuff, how do you like those rotors you have too? improvement over stock?

Yeah the Brembo rotors were probably one of the best investments I made in the car. On the heat side, you have to push then REALLY hard to get any sort of fade from them. I've only been able to over cook them slightly from repeat runs along some hardcore roads, but that took some doing! On the "bite" side, I'd say that the slots grab the pads a lot better and braking from 80+ is a lot more firm than stock. On the down side, they shed A LOT of brake dust, but as long as you keep up on that, it's no biggie.

If I were to buy them all over again though, I would have just gone with the slotted and forgone the cross drilled. I think that the venting would be sufficient enough and there would be no sacrifice to the bite, nor any risk of cracks forming around the drilled holes (although I haven't had any yet). Hope that helps ya.

nautical2086
08-14-2005, 12:37 PM
Yeah i just orderd those too, only because i got them for 95 shipped and i have a friend who liked them, otherwise i would have just went with plain slotted.

steve_protege
08-14-2005, 06:15 PM
I have the slotted ones from PowerSlot. I hear they are much better than crossdrilled one. Im kinda anal about brake dust all over my wheels so I went with the slotted ones. I guess they put out less dust as opposed to cross-drilled. Plus like FlyinHawaiian said, the slotted rotors will last a little bit longer than CD and not fade as quickly.

here is a pic I took today after what happened on saturday.

How did you fix your front bumper? How exactly did it break? You run into the back of lifted truck's tire? Something hit you? Fill me in here.... Im confused.

Also, what am I looking at in the pic? Is there any damage to your car in that one or just a pic of your car looking all better now?

Yeah so... anyone know anyone who want's to buy my car? I just ate my second engine in 2 months (I'll post a full story when I am sober) and am thinking I am gonna get rid of the piece of shit. 2 engine, 2 months, not my fault, it's getting old and I am getting pissed off. I'm not riding the thing as hard as I used to... I take car of it, I wash it every week, oil change (synthetic) every 5-6k miles, I'm like OCD about keeping it clean and fresh. I do my own brake jobs and all. I'm just pissed at what happened, in short, the Mazda dealership up here said that my engine broke a spark plug and the cylendar ate the bitch... How the fuck does that happen? Anyway, I could use some support and sympathy, but I'm drunk as shit righ now so i'm just gonne post this bitch and get going.... Peace

Well what happened the first time was stupidity, I didn't check the oil level and assumed that just changing the oil on the recommended schedule was enough... my fault. This time around, I have no idea what happened. The electrode that creates the spark sheared off the plug and got sucked into the engine, the extent of the damage isn't known yet, but we're expecting a total engine replacement. I'll be happy to sell that to someone if it occurs. I am going to sell the car one I get it fixed though, so if someone wants to buy it, let me know.

I am definately planning on staying in the Mazda family and am looking at 2nd gen Miata MX-5s as well as 3rd Gen RX-7s. Thanks for the support guys... I need it.

That front bumper is so nice! If that guy set up a group buy on here, I am sure that lots of 99-00 owners would want to buy one.

Is fiberglass not good for it to be made out of?

if you hit it on the ground/bottom out idk if it would but thats what ive heard... and almost all the fiberglass bumpers i see here in florida are cracked to hell

i hit a small yellow pole .. heard a loud crack.. took the entire bumper off and examined it, no damage... i got lucky... but erebuni makes some strong ass bumpers..

I went and rear-ended someone going less than 15 mph (I was already braking when I hit him) and I thought my bumper and grille were toast. I have the Sport20 bumper and AutoExe lip (both are fiberglass). I was soooo about to get pissed because I just screwed up a 200.00 bumper (bought it from a member on here) but luckily everything was fine. The bumper was still in one piece and the lip was unharmed. However, my grille caught the brunt of everything and cracked. But I have to say that I totally dodged a bullet on that one. Id much rather pay 150.00 for a new grille than almost 500.00+ for the bumper and lip again from Corksport.

11-07-2005, 12:25 PM
before i buy it, i tought that was very cheap and easy to break but it look like more strong than the original bumper.. because the bumper is really flexible so if you hit the ground, ill move and willn't break... but if you hit sidewalker at 20 mph, maybe he'll break lol but it seen strong ! (thumb)

steve_protege
11-09-2005, 09:33 PM
My bumper held up after my accident, so you should be fine if you hit a curb or something. Just don't hit it head on or anything. Worse case scenerio, you'll have to have to patch up the damage and then re-sand it etc... Best case, you'll have to repaint the spot.

If you have the true Sport20 bumper and lip from Corksport, it's urethane not fiberglass. That's why it held up. IMO, fiberglass is just for show and not to be used on daily driven cars. They're not meant to handle the abuse of the roads.

Someone backed into mine and the only thing that happened was the paint chipped and I got a few scratches.

I was referring to what steve said about the Sport20 bumper. It's not fiberglass, it's urethane. I have the Sport20 bumper and when some dumb bitch backed into me, I completely lost it. After I finally calmed down I realized that only a huge chip of paint came off, that's it.

That happened back in DEC 2002, and to this day it still looks like that. I used the money she paid me on bills. I've been neglecting my car for a long time and I'm pretty much restoring it like new over the next nine months, just in time for NOPI. I don't want to sell it because I like it, and it's paid off. I'll probably give it to my kid down the road if I don't neglect it anymore after I get it back to normal. New engine, tranny, suspension, paint, interior. I already started on the interior.

Didn't know that. Could of sworn that it was fiberglass. But now that you mention it and I think about it, I guess it is urethane. Kinda explains why the paint is coming up off the bumper. Because a flex agent wasn't used and the paint didn't bond with the bumper. Ok... guess they are urethane then. Now Im little more relieved about getting in that accident then.

I went and reacted the same way when I hit that guy. I was so pissed! My gf thought I was going to bust a vein or something in my head. I was cursing up a storm and yelling. I thought my bumper and lip were toast. Fortunately, just had a cracked grille and a paint swap from the other bumper.

My car is in the same condition to this day as well. I haven't been able to get 400.00 to get my car fixed. I have to dish out an extra 150.00 to buy a new Sport20 grille. I have to have the shroud in my engine day hopefully bent back into place. If not, I have to spend a 100.00 more to have that same piece taken off another Protege in a junkyard welded in place of the old they (bodyshop) cut out. Im close to paying off my car too so thats why I want to keep mine for a long time and possibly pass it on to my kids.
