View Full Version : Mazda 3 Getting Trendy?

I wanted to know what everyone thought about the success of the Mazda 3. I have a 50 mi. drive home in the afternoons and typically see 2-3 Mazda 3's on the road. A lot of times I see teenage bubblegum girls driving them. It is starting to remind me of what civics were a couple years ago. It seems that the 3 is becoming more of a trend that an enthusiast car. I know that popularity will help build a stronger aftermarket, but if it is at the expense of being "just another Mazda 3" I am not sure if it is worth it. What does everyone think?

it's not up to Mazda to make your 3 unique, it's YOUR JOB to personalize your 3.
so good for Mazda for making a car that people like and willing to put down money to buy.
and yes i am also noticing 3's being driven by hot young girls (college coeds rock :D )

I have seen quite a few on the road lately. Just on the way home i saw about 4 within 40 mi or so. You cant argue, its a great looking car at a great price. ;)

I see more of the 6 than the 3 but I am definitely seeing more and more of the 3.
Only noticed one hottie behind the wheel, though. :(
I don't mind that it's popular. I doubt it will ever be as common as a Civic (thank God), so I'm not too worried about that. Some more aftermarket support would be nice, though.
Besides... the more popular it is, the easier I'll be able to sell mine when the Speed comes out. (2thumbs)

My Mazda never had aANY 3's on the lot as of yesterday the had 8 (eight) 5DR's. I asked my buddy and he said that Enterprise Rent A Car had bought them to use as rentals....
....there went the originality and value of my car. Florida, 14 and a wake up.

The Enterprise by me has had one for months, now. It didn't really bother me. I just looked at it as a source of spare parts. (shady)

I think one reason why the 3's are so popular (besides the fact that it is a nice car) is that there haven't been too many new models in the compact segment recently. Honda is the only one coming towards the end of the year, and next year will be Nissan, Toyota and Hyundai.

I see mazda 3's everywhere...but you know what...they are still no civic man. I have yet to see a Mazda 3 dinged up, banged up, dirty as fuck or running on the donot spare tire. In my books, thats enough to classify it as not in the same category as the civic. I see eveyone from young chicks and punks to old farts and hags driving the 3. But none of them seem to look like assholes or bitches. They all seem a little elegant and sporty in the car...but thats just my take.

There is not one time that I go out of the house and dont see a Mazda 3. They are pretty much everywhere. The 6 is not as popular here as the Altima's but there is still quite a few of those.

I am not sure if your perception of what the Mazda 3 has become is correct. In Pittsburgh I have seen close to a dozen of differant Mazda 3's and not once did I see a bubblegum girl in them. In actuallity all the Mazda 3's that I have seen have been young business professional between the age of 23-30. I don't think that the Mazda 3 carries any POP culture qualityies like the civics that everyone sees. I have yet to see a tacky looking 3 with ridiculas amounts of useless non-funtional aftermarket parts from the major display chains(pep-boys,advance auto, etc...) If these cars that you are seeing have young girls driving them then in my opinion they might just have good taste for vehicles and are truely driving enthusiast. Regardless of what their age may be. You gotta admit that for a young girl to go buy(or have mommy/daddy buy) a Mazda 3 is pretty uncommen, with all the temptation of POP culture steering them towards the Mustang,Civic,Camaro,Integra etc......
Just my $.02

I can proudly say I have the only 4-door SP of all the 3's I've seen on the road. With any luck, they will soon out number the eye-sore handas found at every red light and stop sign. (2thumbs)

Just my $.02 I guess part of it is where I live. When the median home price is $652,000, you see tons of 16-17 year olds driving nice cars. And its definately uncommon on weekends to see 5 or 6 Ferraris, Lamborghinis or Bentlys. I was in Laguna Beach the other day an saw a kid about 16 driving an Escalade with 22's and a loud ass system, billet grill and so on. It is a good thing you don't see a bunch of aftermarket crap on them, that would really piss me off.
I guess all I am trying to say is that you see a bunch of people driving 3's that have no appreciation for driving. They only bought it because it is good looking and its popular. To me its almost as bad as some old fart driving 55 mph on the freeway in a Porche Turbo.

Well Around my area Altima/Chevy Impala's/Oldsmobiles and Honda's dominate the streets...
I'm sure some of the MEC's know...I see more 6's than 3's

I've seen quite a few 3's in Providence, but not that many now that I'm back in the Midwest. I think I have the only Black 5 dr. Sport in the area, although I have seen a few of the Sedans. And as for aftermarket parts, I've noticed that there really isn't a whole ton of them, so the 3 can maintain it's majestic facade. I have seen that Mazdaspeed is producing grills, fronts, skirts and backs for the 3, as well as turbochargers, but it hardly detracts from the beauty of that which is a 3. Provided it doesn't show up in the next "Fast & the Furious" movies, I think we'll all be safe....

Well, I have to say, the 3 must not be getting too trendy, after all.
On my way to work this morning, I was stopped at a red light and I hear somebody honking. I look over and dude next to me in a minivan was motioning for me to roll down my window.
I opened up and he says, "What kind of car is that?!"
I told him, he said he liked it and then he asked what kind of gas mileage it got.
I told him that and then as the light turned green and I was rolling away, he says, "I like that gas cap!"
Silly mortals. (alright)

That man must have spent the last two years in a coma.....you probably caught him on his drive home from the hospital. Coma or jail....but jail and minivan is just weird, so I am sticking with coma

I see lots of 6's around here, and a few older Protege5's. I have one of a very few 3's, especially in a 5 door in my area. I still don't think I have seen one in the area in the strato blue mica color of mine and hopefully it stays that way! I do get people of all types occassionally asking me what kind of car it is and commenting on how much they like it. I went to the store the other day and some kid commented to his dad about how my car kind of looked like their civic and I grunted in disgust, but my 5 year old had my back and said but my mom's car is way cooler, really, really loud!! :) GOD! I love that kid! (cryhard)

The 3 is definetly a popular car. Of 142 cars delivered at my job, 70 were 3s. Of the 19 I sold, 12 were 3s. It's not just based on a trend though. They're safe, handle very well and the base engine still has more hp than some competitor's top of the line (save for the factory "tuners").

I agree, easier to sell mine as well for the speed. I just hope the speed 3 has awd as well and drives remarkedly well.
i notice these cars more and more as the months go by. I know when i first got mine, i was literally the first person in my area to own one, if not fully loaded.
i had a lot of ppl come up to me and say how much the car looked hot and asked all sorts of questions.
well... im happy to have my m3! until mazdaspeed3 comes out around 2006/07. :D
