nope used Krylon yellow stained glass paint, about 7 bucks for a can, spray it on dries in about 30 mins and totally cures in about 2-3 hours, add as many layers and u see visually pleasing and if they ever chip or get messed up u can just spray them again or if u dont like them u can use paint thinner to remove it, quick easy cheap mod that anyone can do. hope that helped.

Just bought this for $2,000. 118k, 5 speed, loaded, VERY happy with it so far! There are only a few problems with it that are easy fixes. Some kid must have owned it before the last owner, as it had really cheesie and annoying things done to it, like "Racing" floor mats, a "type s" emblem replaced the "protege" emblem on the trunk, there was one of those big stickers that covered the top half of the windshield, I don't really like the rainguards but I plan to keep them as removing the adhesive looks painful. There's also a bunch of small dings and dents, but only 2 noticeably ugly ones. The previous owner tried to hammer one out on the front left fender (which I am going to replace), and there's a long rusty scratch laid in a dent on the passenger's side rear fender (which I plan to get fixed professionally). Other than that, PERFECT. :)

What are you boosting at?

djarkitek
10-26-2006, 03:58 AM
it's a splash shield, not the bottom of the intercooler. and I did'nt take the photos but i'll pass the word. and as of right now, i'm boosting nothing. car's down going through a lot of work. I'm hopefully to be boostin at 9-10 psi and pushing a little over 200HP. But i dont want to push anymore on my weak ES motor.

oh yea. the splashgaurd was already fixed. it somehow came loose during the trip to HIN.

Hey Chico, riding on cut springs is dangerous. I've had 2 friends that had their springs callapse while driving. If your interested, I have brand new, never used, set of Sprint lowering springs collecting dust in my storage room. Its been taking up space and collecting dust for almost 2yrs. I'll give them to you for next to nothing if you want.

Do the Sprint springs lower more than the Tein S-Techs? I installed my S-Tech springs in the summer time along with some Tokico HP's. I thought they would drop more, but I have like 2 finger gap all around. Maybe that is cause of the new struts?

D-rock240
11-20-2006, 10:28 PM
How much of a drop are they? I may be interested, and I work about 15-20 minutes away from College Park. I even bought my pro there :)

redrims
11-20-2006, 10:40 PM
Well Red99pro called dibs. If he changes his mind, then they are all yours. Though selling locally is 10x easier. But they drop 2"s front and rear.

99pro, I think your struts prohibited your springs from dropping more. I'll put pics up tonight when I get back home.

So you are saying my Tokico HP's don't let my springs drop as much as they should? Maybe I should have just bought a set of cheap KYB's.

From what I've read, they are similar to the MP3 struts and do not allow much of a drop compared to other struts. But the handling improvements are superior to others, iirc.

red95_240sx
11-21-2006, 02:00 AM
uh oh chico is getting mad. as far as who gets the springs, i do have less wheel gap than you, i am in WANT of a lower set, but my left rear fender is smashed closer to the wheel in previous owner wreck or something, it scrubs at times, and the same wheel's strut is a bit worn. so d-rock can buy them.i might jus drop the fronts with something else.

and in FL you shouldn't have to worry about lots of corrosion

mazda is pretty much the only place your goign to be able to find one....MAYBE ebay if you get lucky but 99% of the time you gotta get it from mazda. their price isnt that bad. the charger front bumper is $1,200 unpainted. ours is like 250 i think? itll cost about that to paint it IIRC.

no the box filter is removed. but i kept the bracket of it and the rubber seal on the box. its the best setup for the 1.6l i could find. i suggest u try it. i just made the "inner tube gasket" for my maf. i will see if that helps thewhole sri to work better. u no we have problems with aftermarket intakes. if u do try it let me no cuz there r other hints to it.

only problem you should have is finding a cf hood for the 99-00 body style. I have seen at least 3 or 4 GBs fall through for this, only seen one actually produced

Do you like it? You can find this chinese protegé's grill in Carfieldenterprise.com.

They ships from Hong Kong worldwide... I got some stuff from him... no problem at all... you can send a pm to kafai for price and shipping quote to Canada...

whats a good way to clean an engine? is powerwashing safe.

I added a bend to get my filter away from all the hotness. (first) is it safe to keep my coolant reservoir there? its bolted in place. is the hose that comes from it have to be a certain way?

Looks nice to me, some 16s would look and handle better. You could do black with a polished lip or an alloy. Too bad you have 4 lugs, some Racing Harts would be perfect (I feel your pain :( )

What kind of suspension setup do you have (springs and struts)?

Just installed Tokico Blues + Eibach Pro Kit. Very nice, except a mysterious clunk in the driverside rear. If I were to hazard a guess, it's either play between the shock and body or a bad strut. But everything was tightened/retightened/checked/rechecked, so I'm at a loss.

Not too low either, I've only scraped the front lip once or twice - thankfull it's on the underside.
/tangent

I'm seriously considering buying gold or bronze rotas - either torque, boost, or grid but I'm just too hesitant. I'd like something a little lighter that what I have now, just not sure exactly what color. Also I know there is a hub diff, ours being 54.1 and the wheels being 63.1 or something like that, so I could just use hubcentric rings to flush everything up I believe. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Who makes GT3s, they sound familiar?

D-rock240
12-26-2006, 12:33 AM
Thanks, I wanted to know if the pro-kit with the Tokicos had an even drop, but it looks higher in the back. I am sick of my uneven gap and want to make sure when I upgrade the suspension that I get a balanced gap, while keeping good performance.

But they look sick in black. Drag also make these wheels. They are called DR16 or Drag 16s and cost a little less.

Donny
12-26-2006, 07:01 PM
lol, I knew they sounded familiar! Thanks redrims, I'll look into those.

I'll dig around and see if I have any true side shots so you can get a better idea, if not I'll take some whenw e get some daylight. Those were taken with stock rear springs and tokico fronts. (lacked the parts to finish the rear) I just went out and quickly measured - got pretty close to 23 3/4" from ground to center of wheel well on both front and rear.

I think the tokico ones are 1 1/4 all the way around, that might give you an even drop.

yeah for everything I read of them on forums I should love them. I want a light drop for my car, roads here don't let me think in aggressive lowering so I'll be ok with an inch drop. Then when I need to replace struts, tokico blues will be next...

well D-rock asked me to post some pics of my car so I was going to get it washed and take some good shots with my camera but unfortunatly tonight on my way home from Drill (I am in the National Guard). My car was hit by a truck coming out of a parking lot. It completely smashed my passenger side rear and took my rear bumper off. So the only recent pictures I have are from my cell phone of a dirty car so dont be too hard on me. The second pic is old and after I washed it.

Hah, I was hoping no one would catch that. I cannot stand the holes, but have not filled them in yet, so I just Photoshopped over it. I really wish I would have filled them in, but I had that bumper in my house for over a year and just wanted the damn thing on. Zero ur front end looks nice. i definately have to do something to mines. Im asking what is the best way to paint the chrome upper grille part along with procedures? If i have any paint left from my recent fix, i plan to paint this peice. Also ive noticed some clear corners for the 99-00 are outline with black plastic instead of whitish. i beleive this helps make the corner lenses appear smaller than the ones made of white plastic, am i right? The ones i have now are slightly too big.

You would have to take the chrome part out prep it to paint. It just snaps on to the black grille part. sand it down smooth and spray a primer and the base color and clear coat and reinstall. you can also pop out the mazda logo so it easier to paint that part in the middle and remove the ugly black pastic thing acting as a background for the logo. the black clear corner look smaller but they are the same size. If you wanted to make yours black you would have to buy the black ones, you cant open the clear ones and paint them. I know i've tried can't get the glue to melt like the headlight.

its called the signature. just host a pic some where like photobucket.com and add the url in the sign section in your User control panel.

In the pics you posted i noticed, the driver side of the car still has the door molding and the passenger side doesnt have it. other then that its looking good

You don't use glue to put them back. You use double sided tape, like the once made by 3M. Or to take the other side off, here is the how to http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4737

painting the grille black would look better then red

I'm gonna go with 215/35/18...the width is 18x7.5 and the offset is 43...most of the places I've contacted say that on the Proteges the offset should be between 35-42.

You have been mis-informed! On a sedan you will need at least 45mm offset with 7.5" wheel and may need to roll fenders if you're lowered. Stock offset I believe is 50mm.

As you can tell I'm still a rookie with this one...is this where spacers come in? I'm used to (gulp) older Mustangs...it was mostly jack it up, replace.

I had a chance to get a CF hood, but I decided its really not practical for me. I don't see myself waxing it every week. Plus I don't have a garage, so the car is exposed to the elements most of the time. And I'm happy with the way it looks now, maybe if I can find some Sand Mica mirror covers without having to buy the mirrors.
