View Full Version : Blown Radiator Hose

So last night I was driving home and my 98 DX started overheating really bad. I mean I only live 15 miles from work and it's never done that before in such short drives. I was especially alarmed because my battery light also came on so I pulled over to let it cool some before continuing.

After I got the car home, I let it cool for a little while before filling the radiator with water and getting back on the road to run some errands. Less than 5 mins after I left the house it started overheating again and before I got a chance to stop on the freeway I heard a pop in the engine. Upon investigation I saw that the larger hose that runs from the radiator to the engine (its right on top of the engine block) had exploded and ripped in half.

Does anyone have any idea what could be the cause of this? I know for a fact that the hose ripped after I stopped at home so what I'm trying to figure out is why it started overheating so rapidly in the first place and flashing the battery light because I beleive this may be the reason for the hose to explode. Thanks in advance
