I had my original MAF sensor replaced with a refurbished unit from Mazda under the special service bulleten due to my car bucking and surging under acceleration or load. Now a year and three months later same bucking and surging are happening again. Now I live on an island in Alaska(Kodiak) and it takes a 13 hour boat ride followed by a 2.5 hour car ride to get to the nearest dealership which is in Anchorage. Mazda USA had the dearlership in Anchorage mail me a MAF sensor the first time all this happened. I tried the q-tip and alcohol cleaning method and electronic spray cleaner method. Neither worked. So I contacted Mazda USA and they are unwilling to do anything about it. I have no paper work on the MAF sensor that was sent to me from the dealership so I don't know what kind of warranty these come with if any. So my only option seems to be to buy a new one. Where is the cheapest place to buy one and what kind of warranties do these things come with? Any help would be greatly appreciated by a guy stuck on an island in Alaska.

many of us experienced bad MAF with cai systems, I went through 3 before taking my cai off, since then no problems

check your PMs, giving you the number to the salvage yard that bailed me and others out multiple times

Yeah, definately go with who Witchdoktor is recommending. That guy bailed me out big time when I had to source some stock parts after my old Protege was totalled. He can get you ANYTHING for a Protege.

While on the subject of MAF for the 1.6l, I have a question bout it. I hear that its the "bottleneck" of the intake system, not the TB. Is there anyway to improve the MAF and help with air flow?

Sorry for the threadjack!!

Yeah get an aftermarket intake, the opening is usually bigger

Honestly without FI I seriously doubt you can maxout the flow of the stock MAF with NA mods currently available though

the problem is to much air is gettin let into the system, the maf is ok, its just the aftermarket system is lettin to much air in and the car cant put enough fuel in the air mixture, try blockin off some of the intake where the filter is to restrict some air flow to get a lil less air in it..

Yeah I called www.mazdarecycling.com and they said $125. The place that Witchdoktor suggested has none. Tried car-parts.com and carparts.com, no luck. Tried e-bay no luck. Found one here http://store.yahoo.com/dpstore/afmagl.html $149.99 plus $66 core charge, and it has a 12 month warranty. I'm not sure of the warranty if I go through mazdarecycling. It may be worth the extra money to get one with a 12 month warranty since this will be my second one in 13 months. Again NO mods to my Protege at all. All stock. Any other suggestions out there? Thegoldpro did your maf from mazdarecycling come with any warranty?
