Of course. I talked to my dealer Monday. They have no ETA (at least nothing more specific than "January".) They ran a locate in for the region and some showed up as close as Baltimore. Bad news was every one was black. They called the Baltimore dealer and although they had a VIN, no car yet.

Still waiting on my orange MSP. They'll get here when they get here.

I live in Massachusetts and I spoke to my dealer last Friday. No definite word yet but the last rumor was mid-Jan. I'm waiting for a black msp so who knows. The dealer doesn't. LOL He was going to be talking with his district rep this week to find out the latest. I'm sure he'll be busy, and will forget to call, so I'll be sure to call HIM this Friday.

Yea, I should do the same. Let me know what he says though when you call him.

i am in ohio, the dealer said that it should be less than 2 weeks, that was three days ago...

ohh, mine is orange, the dealer said that the black ones would be out until summer of 2003, which didnt make sense to me but i opted to go orange due to the orange stiching on the interior, i guess i am a little anal :)

jroof

Your dealer is WRONG. There are already two black ones out there. One in Michigan and one in Texas.

i knew he was wrong... i hate it when i know i am right and know more about a car than the person selling it to me, oh well like i said the orange sttiching will look better with the orange paint. and i am a university of tennessee student and the orange matches are school color nicely :)

my dealer (CONNECTICUT) got an invoice for one that had reportedly been shipped last thursday, so he expects the car within the next cple days. they say they usually get the car 3 days or so after the invoice, might be a little off because of holidays and whatnot though, i dunno.

UNFORTUNATELY.............its black. and i am waiting on orange

Slug,
Will you let us know as soon as you do that the black MSP has arrived at your dealer? I figure if the CT dealers are getting them, then mine up the road a little shouldn't be too far behind. My dealer told me he'd call when the first one comes in whether black or orange but I don't trust him at all. Thanks.

Slug420,

What dealers in CT have the black ones? I haven't seen or heard of any up in Mass yet.

slug420
01-08-2003, 02:14 AM
Morande in Manchester has a black one in the showroom
Modern Motors in Thomaston CT has a black one too

if you go to Modern then you can ask for Jeff Smith, he;s my sales guy, and if you go to morande.....i'll bite my tongue:).....maybe fins can tell you who he worked with there though. Modern is charging MSRP and I think fins got his for msrp from morande.

the one at Modern was spoken for but that buyer's financing may have fallen through so...not sure what the deal is with that one

im gonna call some RI and MA dealers tomm to see if any of them have an orange kickin around. im dyin to see the color so i know whether or not i wanna keep holdin out for mine or snag the black one at Modern....

what dealer are you dealin with in MA? is anyone workin with metrowest in shrewsbury? thats the one im hoping will have one when i call tomm.....boston is a bit of a haul

OrangeAppeal

January 2nd, my saleslady told me that at least one was invoiced to them, and hopefully it would be in by the end of this week. She wasn't able to get a VIN number and as of now still no word. My dealership is Mazda of Newport, RI...but I was assured that the first one is Orange and the first one is mine.

I'll keep everyone updated to my situation as it changes, but i've pretty much been in a holding pattern like most others.

Slug,
For Mica is dealing with Metrowest. I'm dealing with Vachon in Attleboro. It's actually right of 95 on the RI, MA border. Depending on where you are in CT, that might actually be the closest dealer to you. If you give Vachon a call, let me know how it goes. I haven't spoken to them in a while but considering CT is getting them, it might be time for me to call again. My salesman is Bill Courville but if you call, try someone else, he really doesn't seem to know much. Keep us updated, it won't be long now...

That's not too far. Good luck with your purchase.

I'll be picking mine up this Saturday because I had to wait to get the insurance taken care of. Insurance is a killer on this car, they termed it a "performance sedan."

Can't wait for Saturday to come around :D

It depends on your insurance company. I've talked to Progressive (my current company) and they told me it would be the same as a Protege ES. Somebody else on the board who has already taken delivery has confirmed this.

If I were you, I'd shop around, especially in New Jersey since the rates are already so high.

Cool! That was the one I checked out this afternoon. Pretty flippin' nice. I told my contact Mike that you were down in CT and were lookin' for an Orange one. If all else fails Slug420, maybe Shrewsbury and Manchester can do a swap. Black for Orange. I'm going to give the Shrewsbury boys a couple days to contact the district rep for the next delivery though. Best of luck to you!

jroof

Slug, why don't you just grab the one at Shrewsbury? Just trying to keep your loyalties with your dealer? I suppose that's best in the long run.

Also, if anyone is waiting in the Mass area, I just got a call from Vachon Mazda in Attleboro. They have a spicy orange that Ricardo the salesman called "a gold one".

If I were you, I'd shop around, especially in New Jersey since the rates are already so high.

I was referred to this place by a co-worker who said their rates were good. I called and the agent was like "I was just reading up on that car, we have to classify it as a performance sedan." I said in disbelief, "performance sedan?" and he wanted to know how many HP it had - (I thought you just read up on it!)

Anyway, they quoted me $2700 per year with a $500 deductable. I'm 26, don't have a single blemish on the record and own my own home. Too much money for me!

I ended up going home and getting my fiance to agree to put me under her policy. We are paying $2600 a year for the MSP and her 2000 Celica GT. Now that sounds more reasonable.

I wish we had Progressive and Geico here in Jersey but we have to make due with what we have.

Anyway, can't wait to pick it up Saturday, and the best part is, I'll still have my Prelude in the garage!

The state of Mass. apparently hasn't assigned the MSP a code yet so my insurance agency is insuring me with ES rates. She said she didn't know how long it would be before the state certified the car or if they ever will. So I could potentially get a rude suprise at some point during the year.

Mark94
01-09-2003, 01:59 PM
I expect the same in the near future. My fiance's company didn't have a record of the MSP so they insured it as the highest model fully loaded. We have to send them the bill of sale and the window sticker instead of getting the insurance inspection. Based on this, they will definitely raise that rate in the near future.

At least it is better than what I was quoted on my own policy. It's amazing how much we are overcharged simply because we are men!

In CT....24 (almost 25) y/o male...1 speeding ticket in Aug '00

90 CRX Si - Liability only
03 MSP - Full coverage with $500.00 deductable
~$1700/yr

Rates will hopefully go down when I renew my policy in June.

andr3w
01-09-2003, 04:23 PM
32-yo
1 speeding ticket on my record
Homeowner
$580 for 6 months with $100 deductable and gap insurance

This was with Progressive, they did not have MSP yet, but they had MSRP and specs from the VIN number. The guy I worked with was an import enthusiast, wants to get the new Lancer Evolution or Mazda RX-8 or 350 Z later this year. He knew about the MSP and thought it was cool that I was able to take advantage of Progressive not listing it yet. At 170hp he doubts it'll get much attention from the loss adjusters. Let's hope!

Next week the insurance on our Town & Country expires with All State and I can add it to Progressive for only $200 more for six months. All State wanted $888 for that minivan for 6 months, an increase of 80% over last year for no reason.

jroof
01-09-2003, 04:35 PM
They're getting me for $1409 on an ES with a $500 deductable. But I'm not sure if she took into account the alarm, AAA memebership, etc so I may be able to get her to go a little lower. I was paying $1200 with my 94 Probe so I'm not complaining.

Hey whats up everyone.... Its been a while.....

Slug, I just called the dealer & also heard the good
news.... Very happy for you man....
I also have good news, looks like I'll be able to
come up with a better down payment.
So I will be trying for the car one more time.
Hey did you go see the black one the dealer has?
I'm going this weekend to check it out & get a feel
for the car, though I don't think he'll let me test drive it.
I guess you really must want the orange one being you
didn't take the black one.... Hey maybe I will, who knows.
So keep us posted & let me know when you get it,
I would love to see it.

Just as a side note, anyone here looking into the EVO?
I was, found out about the markups & I rather wait
till next year or till they bring ACD/AYC...... :D

The MSP has already hit Jersey. I got mine two weeks ago and I also got a call from Open Road Mazda/Honda asking me if I was still interested in the car so I know they got at least one in. I had already placed my order at another dealer.

welcome back rugged!

yea they still have the black one there......I wasnt allowed to test drive it because i went to see it the afternoon it came off the truck, and at that point someone had a deposit on it. I guess it has been sold like 7 times since then and NO one has been able to get their financing to go through.....weird. But right now i dont tihnk anyone has a deposit on it so you might be able to drive it. I think its sittin outside so that makes it that much more likely for a test drive. If you're lookin for a salesman this time around ask for Jeff Smith.....maybe he will hook me up for throwin him some business :):)

I guess they have a line of ppl (most who are gonna be disappointed i think cuz they probably wont get many more) waitin for orange ones but no one waitin on the black.

ill keep you posted on my ride, let you know when i go to pick it up and maybe we can meet there if you have your black one by then

black looks soooooooooooooooooo nice. soooooooo nice. I saw it and it was all dirty right off the truck and it looked so badass. I thought for a while about switching colors, but im a big fan of orange in general and cant pass up the opportunity to have an orange car...
