Results are back, going 55 miles per hour on the highway with a CAI and no cats will give you 39 mpg. (cool) And piss off a lot of people that want to go faster. (second) (dark)

Impressive.
I can typically get 35mpg when I'm trying but getting anything beyond that seems to be a fluke.

Funny I thought people here say there is no noticable performance upgrades with a Cai, or Short Ram

I think having no cats is probably a big contributor since there is no horsepower lost trying to push the exhaust out.

I have to set it on cruise control, otherwise I can't do it. Got to remain cool when trucks are running down your rear.
508.5 miles on 12.9xx gallons.

You only live once...Time is more important than money...
Driving 55 for one year (asuming your commute is all highway miles)
15,000mi / 55mi/hr = 273 hrs
15,000mi / 39 mi/g * $2.00/g = $769
Driving 70 for one year
15,000mi / 70mi/hr = 214 hrs
15,000mi / 31 mi/g * $2.00/g = $967
You would save $200 and loose 60 hrs of your life. That's more than a full work week or an entire weekend. For $200 I'll keep my weekend.

When my motor's is off and I'm letting it roll back an inch my car gets infinity miles to the gallon-- not taking into account the minute amount of gas leaking from the fuel line and gas cap.
Seriously, that one ought to drive the enviro whackos crazy-- remove the cats and you hurt the pocketbooks of Bush's "friends". Such a quandary for them.

Over the course of your lifetime you could save between 150 days to an entire year just by speeding.

Not to mention the Eisenhower Interstate system was designed for speeds of 70 mph.
55 is for the senile.
I think it was Brock Yates from Car and Driver who said we should make the highway speed limit 100 and be done with it. As long as people moved right a lane for faster movingcars and used turn signals (fat chance though in America), I predict there'd be NO increase in fatalities.

as long as the highways were designed for that speed - wide lanes and gentle, banked turns, and long entrance and exit ramps

I know space is limited but on-ramps and off-ramps should be designed so the driver can easily reach 55-65 mph by the time they merge. Another hazzard of the clover leaf highway junction is the portion under the bridge where people are entering and exiting in a 200 ft space. Who came up with that brilliant idea?

wtf!!!?? I just averaged my stuff the other day and only got like 23.5mpg. Granted I shift anywhere from 3-3.5k and normally go 65-75mph. But still, 23.5mpg?? thats horseshit. I am gonna try and drive nicer this tank still around 65 though and see what I come up with.

I think I only get 27 mpg when I go 70.
The only problem is, if I wasn't saving gas money, I'd have to take a second job. (Extra time rendered null and void).
My calculations (for me personally):
120 miles a day / 39mpg * $2.10/g = $6.46 + 30 extra minutes of travel time
120 miles a day / 27mpg * $2.10/g = $9.33
So by my calculations, driving slow is like a $5.75/hr job that consists of me listening to my radio while making sure my car doesn't drift off the road.

Wow, that's inpressive. I'm getting about 35 with my cruise on doing the speed limit on my commute. I got a max of 36.5 so far. I'm running a OBX header and stock exhaust to the HKS Hiper muffler (with silencer installed) Before I slowed down, I was averaging 30-31 mpg on my commute, trips were always 28mpg. The commute time was increased like 10 minutes.

I played with this when I was going to Illinois State University. It's a 2.5 hour drive both ways at about 70 mph.
One day I decided to see what it'd be like if I took it down to 60 (5 over posted limit). I saved more gas, and interestingly enough, the 2.5 hour drive turned into a 2.75 hour drive. Not too bad!
Another time my girlfriend took off on I-94 going about 80; I kept it at 60. The end result? I pulled into her house right after she did - the trip up I-94 was about 50-60 miles...

Hm... 39mpg driving at 55.... I now drive 100% city and I get around 30-32MPG on 1.6L P2000 LX with K&N drop-in air filter and modified intake tube. When I used to drive on high way I get 38-40MPG @ 65-70MPH. The lowest I ever got was using winter gas (oxygenated in oregon during winter, MPG dropped all the way to 27MPG)

Maybe try out different gas station and see if it make any improvement. I always fill up with Chervon 87 octane gasoline.

I only get from 290-315 miles on a tank (all city) and I am usually the first off the line ! Plus I have an automatic. I have only taken one "road trip" and traveling 70+ got 410 miles from a tank.

i'll see what mileage i get with my new job,
commuting to school i had to go up and down hill on the highway almost the whole way.
according to my PDA dyno, i get ~37, but my wallet says differently.
but it also said my friend's v6 mustang got 32 MPG so ???
now it'll be nice and flat trip, feels like a shorter trip too
