For about the last week or so there has been this brutal squeeling sound coming from the front driver side of my car. It almost sounds like the brakes are gone or something. But the thing is that it makes that squeeling noise constantly when I am just driving around then when I come to a complete stop the sound stops. Is it possible for the brakes to make that sound all the time? Or do I have another problem somewhere? Please help!

could be metal on metal in ur breaks, check ur pads, and see if the rotors are scared like metal is rubbing on them..

Maybe you're having the same problem I had.......check it out: http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=108380

edit: this assumes that there is still pad material left on your car

check your CV joints and front suspension. After i did an auto-x race in my celica, i had the same problem, and it was annoying as all hell, i never kept the car long enough to fix it, but im pretty sure that was the problem for me. But the brakes seems to be a simple explination, so hopefully thats it.

i would say if it isnt the brakes, could be a wheel bearing going out..

Definately sounds like the brakes. Mine are doing the same thing right now, I will be changing the brakes tomorrow so I will let you know if that solves the problem. Mine are completely shot, new rotors and pads going on.

if you're still on original pads, I'd say you're doing well lol

my fronts lasted 30k, my rears 40k

Mine lasted 50k before starting to squeal.

Ya, I am pretty sure it is my brake pads. I have 72,000 kms on my car right now and this is the first time I have ever done anything with my brakes. I actually have a friend here where I am from (he owns a import parts shop) that is selling some cross-drilled/slotted KVR rotors and brake pads for the Protege (4-lug). Maybe I should pick those up from him? Are those a good brand?

Yeah you can't go wrong with KVR pads. There is really no need for cross drilled/slotted rotors for your car though. Just get some blanks at a fraction of the cost.

my front brakes started squealing on my car at 32,500....now some KVR pads and cross-drilled rotors are on their way.
